It was bitter sweet to be at the Pentagon watching the NCAA Championship - three months ago I was firm on SMSU at least getting to Sioux Falls, and hoped they'd be the one playing Saturday in front of a capacity Pentagon crowd. That's where I want it to happen when it finally does.
That being said, the experience was a blast. There wasn't a lot of pomp-and-circumstance to the afternoon, but if anyone has the opportunity to go I recommend it. I wish I could have made more of the tournament itself. But for a $12 ticket and $10 in food, it was a great afternoon.
Both teams fought hard. SFSU didn't let being down 2-0 get to them, Lynn was just a little bit better when it mattered most. That's what I wanted out of the game. Congrats to the Fighting Knights.

Does anyone pay attention to spring volleyball? SMSU has three dates this year - a set of scrimmages at home vs. three teams that I can't find, then two standalone roadtrips vs. USF and SDSU.
I'll be at the SDSU matchup - I know it's a friendly exhibition, but the opportunity to play a DI NCAA Tournament team is kinda cool. Not gonna miss that.
I was there the last time the Mustangs made the trip to Brookings and it actually drew a bit of a crowd from both sides, which was cool.
SMSU visited SDSU for a spring exhibition last night - while it wasn't a real game, it drew a solid crowd from both sides (all things considered) and was quite intense. It was clear both teams didn't want to lose. They split four sets. Thought we played really well, should have won the fourth set but got a little sloppy in the beginning. Overall I liked the way we looked.
Kinda cool seeing Sophie Johnson sitting courtside - she started as a Mustang and finished as Jackrabbit this past season. SMSU's all-time great Taylor Reiss started as a Jackrabbit and then became a Mustang too.
