I'm not going to lie. I've never baked a thing in my life, so I have no idea if that title holds any truth to it or makes any sense whatsoever, but I thought it sounded cool.

The point is we have another week where the conference's top teams have what appear to be cupcakes on their schedule.

No. 6 Pitt State gets Lincoln for homecoming - That's like a chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing. You'll have to really mess things up to go bad with that cupcake.

No. 7 Northwest Missouri gets Eastern New Mexico at home - That's like a Coca-Cola cupcake and frosting recipe I found online. It sounds pretty good, but you just don't know too much about it.

No. 8 Washburn gets Central Oklahoma at home - That's like whatever cupcake your new girlfriend likes. Whether you like it or not, you better get used to it (The Bronchos will join the MIAA next year).

No. 20 Central Missouri gets Fort Hays State on the road - That's like a chocolate, peanut butter and dirty socks cupcake. Most of it sounds good, but there's aspects that worry you.

Missouri Western gets Emporia State on the road - That's like a triple-chocolate double-fudge vanilla swirl cupcake. Sounds delicious, but if you don't watch out, it could be dangerous.

Ah, and alas, the Cupcake Clash between 2-4 Truman State and 1-4 Missouri Southern in Joplin. This game is like a vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing. It looks pretty plain and boring, but could end up being the best one of them all!

Alright, that's enough cupcakes. I'm more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy anways, so let's get into the beef of it.

We'll start where we finished the introduction, in Joplin.

Truman State (2-4, 1-4) at Missouri Southern (1-4, 1-4)
Saturday, Oct. 15; 1 p.m.
Fred G. Hughes Stadium; Joplin, MO

It doesn't get much harder than calling games like this. Both teams are struggling mightily this year. Both have some positives in their rosters. I have seen very little of either as they're not playing in the games I go to or am watching week in and week out.

What I do know is that Missouri Southern's only win this year is against Lincoln, while Truman State looked good against Pitt. Bulldog QB JB Clark is tied with six other guys for third most interceptions thrown in all of D2, but he is still putting up pretty good numbers through the air.

Southern boasts the guy some league coaches told me on Twitter this week earns their vote for best defensive player in the leauge in DL Brandon Williams, and they edge Truman in about every statistical category, but something has me thinking Truman will come out on top.

Look for Clark's top targets, Anthony Brown and Dallas Greir (both averaging 5+ catches a game) to come up big.

Prediction: Truman State 24 Missouri Southern 23

Missouri Western (4-2, 3-2) at Emporia State (2-4, 1-4)
Saturday, Oct. 15; 2 p.m.
Welch Stadium; Emporia, KS

Remember in Week 1 when Pitt's option ran all over the Griffons? Emporia is no Pitt, but they do love to run the option with Tyler Eckenrode and his crew of speedy running backs. Yes, I think Western has improved A LOT since the first week of the season, but you know me and this on-again, off-again love affair with the Hornets.

I'm not usually a fan of picking upsets, but I think Travis Partridge makes a costly mistake, either a fumble trying to stretch out a run or an interception late in the game, and Emporia comes out with a victory.

Prediction: Emporia State 28 Missouri Western 24

No. 20 Central Missouri (4-2, 3-2) at Fort Hays State (2-4, 2-3)
Saturday, Oct 15; 6 p.m.
Lewis Field; Hays, KS

I'll say it again. I'm not entirely sure what Central is still doing in the top 25. Well, really I'm just more concerned they're in there over Western (who I just picked to lose, boy do I not make sense). Identical records, Griffons have the tie-breaker. But anyways, Central is still a way better team than Hays and should, SHOULD come out of here with an easy victory.

But the Mules continue to struggle in the running game, which can be a problem. The good thing? Quarterback Tommy Corwin can light up a scoreboard, and do you think Jamar Howad is going to go two straight games without any major contribution? I'll give you a hint. The answer begins with N and ends with O.

If you're watching the broadcast this week, watch Corwin of course, but also watch Central's other top receiver Taylor Dyer, who stole the show on the Central side of the ball last week against Northwest. For Hays, you'll be watching running backs Andre and Edward Smith and linebacker Alex Whitehill, who leads all of Division 2 with 93 tackles.

Prediction: Central Missouri 44 Fort Hays 27

Central Oklahoma (1-5, Independent) at No. 8 Washburn (6-0, 5-0)
Saturday, Oct 15; 1 p.m.
Yager Stadium; Topeka, KS

We got a couple pass-happy teams going at it in Topeka. While Washburn balances themselves out with RB Justin Cooper to take some of the load off of Dane Simoneau, UCO relies heavily on quarterback Ethan Sharp, who has attempted more passes (307) than anyone in the country.

Bronchos head coach Tracy Holland is just 7-21 since going 7-4 in 2008, his first year under the helm, and leading UCO to the playoffs. They've played a tough schedule, and it obviously doesn't get any easier, heading to take on, for my money, a team as good as I've seen all year.

This will be a nice test for the Washburn D, who is only giving up a tad over 185 passing yards a game, but I think they pass with flying colors.

Prediction: Washburn 47 Central Oklahoma 14

Eastern New Mexico (2-4, 1-3 LSC) at No. 7 Northwest Missouri (5-1, 4-1)
Saturday, Oct. 15; 1 p.m.
Bearcat Stadium; Maryville, MO

Eastern New Mexico is another pass-happy team, but I think that's okay, because if Northwest can contain Central (a big day for Corwin, but it didn't end up hurting them), they should be okay with a bottom-tier LSC team. Look for the QB to WR connection of Wesley Wood to Darian Doyle. Wood averages 30 completions a game, with Doyle picking up 47 of those this season of those this season, both LSC bests. Wood, though, has also thrown an LSC-high nine interceptions.

For Northwest, it doesn't look like Blake Christopher or Jake Soy will play again, depending on what reports you're listening to. Some say gametime decision, others say doubtful. Either way, as long as they can keep their penalties down and limit the big plays through the air, the Bearcats will be fine.

Prediction: Northwest Missouri 50 Eastern New Mexico 20

Lincoln (1-5, 0-5) at No. 6 Pittsburg State (6-0, 5-0)
Saturday, Oct. 15; 2 p.m.
Carnie Smith Stadium; Pittsburg, KS

If Lincoln can keep Pittsburg's starters in until the second half, I'll call this a victory for the Blue Tigers. I don't think it'll happen though. Zac Dickey, Briceton Wilson and company are going to run circles around them quick, early and often. How do I know this? Uh, have you watched Lincoln this year? And oh by the way, Pittsburg is pretty darn good.

I hope Dickey takes the opportunity to take it downfield in this game as there's not much to lose, even if he does make a mistake or two. I look forward to seeing the stat lines at the end of this one.

Prediction: Pittsburg State 56 Lincoln 10
