Ft. Hays St. 21
Missouri Western St. 26th and 4. After a quick spike to stop the clock at 11 seconds, the Tigers had three chances to get their first win against MoWest since they joined the MIAA back in 2006. Unfortunately for the Tigers, all three passes fell incomplete, and although there appeared to be a lot of contact on the final pass, no flag was thrown, giving the Griffons the win. The Tigers averaged 6.3 yards per rush, but were held under 200 yards rushing for the first time this year by the Griffon defense, who was led by MIAA DPOW LB Yomi Alli.

In the other nail biter of the week, the Gorillas jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and held a driving Hornet team to 4th and 9 at the Pitt 26 on the ensuing drive. A controversial fake field goal play where there was confusion about whether ESU WR Ervin Kavaski was eligible to receive the 24 yard pass down to the 2 yard line was upheld, and the Hornets scored on the next play to make it 14-7. The Gorillas were up 28-22 at the half, which had to be a nice change for the PSU faithful after the past two weeks. However, Hornets fought back, and took the lead in the 3rdNortheastern St. 31

Missouri Southern 21MIAA Mid-Season Report

Six games into the season, here is how the MIAA Standings look, along with how things are looking thus far in 2015:

Emporia St 6-0 Has looked like the best team so far this season. Very good offense (5thNorthwest Missouri St. 6-0 Two straight blowouts against teams in the bottom half of the standings. Very good defense (3rd in D2), but a suspect offense against the easiest schedule to date in MIAA. They have 4 games against the top half of the conference, and finish out with Washburn.

Central Missouri 4-2 Ft. Hays St. 4-2 Best rushing offense (12th in D2), gives up a lot of yards per game, but is third in MIAA in scoring defense. Three of last 5 games against the top half, including the two undefeated teams.

Missouri Western 4-2 Good defense with an improving offense, but struggles to finish drives so far (8th in scoring offense). Two games left against the top half, both of them against undefeated teams.

Pittsburg St. 4-2 The most Jeckyl and Hyde team in the league, so far. Good offense with the MIAA FOY. Suspect defense overall, although good with adjusting (two 2nd half shutouts to top half teams Two of five remaining games against top half.

Washburn 3-3 Fading a bit after the big win against Pitt. Another Jeckyl and Hyde type team, with a loss to Lindenwood in the opener. Decent offense and better defense. Three left against the top half of the conference.

Central Oklahoma 2-4 Two game win streak after playing toughest schedule through first four. Good offense, not-so-good defense. Two left against the top half.

Lindenwood 1-5 Reeling with 5 straight losses after season opening win over Washburn. Played toughest schedule to date in MIAA. Struggling on both offense and defense, although Connor Harris leads D2 in tackles. Only one game left against top half of league.

Missouri Southern 1-5 One of three schools with a new coach. Offense in transition from triple option. Defense is dead last in conference, allowing over 500 yds per game. Still have 3 games left against top half of league.

Northeastern St. 1-5 Another school with a new head coach, recorded first win last week. Struggle on offense, but improving on defense against a tough first half schedule. One game left against top half.
