  • Calu wbb question...

This is a questions that mostly relates to followers of VULCAN WBB. Does anyone have any info on a player on the roster named Be Be George ? She's listed as a freshman 5'5" guard with no other data. My best(not much) on line searching turned up absolutely nothing. Has anyone heard of her ?

You'd probably have to assume a late addition walk-on at this point in time. That's not uncommon for a team to add somebody (walk-on) during the first week or so of classes.

Don't believe so for several reasons. This is a really veteran team with 8 who played on the 2015 NC team and another 4 who were with last year's Atlantic Regional semifinalist . Plus 2 of the other 3 freshman received All State consideration, so unless she's a clone of KAYLA SMITH or BROOQUE WILLIAMS, I can't see why any walk-on would be on the roster. AND her name doesn't pop up as in any way related to either HS or AAU BB on any site that I've found . Guess I'll give the Sports Info office a try.

Another new addition to the roster caught my attention: Natalya Smarra, who played softball at Cal for four seasons, is listed as a guard on the women's basketball roster. As I recall, this is permissible, since I've seen basketball players play at a school for four seasons then play another sport for a "senior" season (Western Oregon's Andy Avgi, who earned All-American honors and was a four-year starter on the men's basketball team, is a tight end on the WOU football team this season; IIRC, Larry Webster played hoops for a few seasons at Bloomsburg before playing football in his senior season).

The first name is a tad uncommon. Perhaps a foreign import and that could explain the lack of available Google material.

Plus, all teams take walk-on practice bodies (for lack of a better term). They don't cost much.

          Just some ideas.

I searched several days ago but found nothing on BeBe George either.

That would bring me out to a game. There just doesn't seem to be any PSAC WBB players anymore to entice fans to a game.

I know that there was a BeBe in the 1981 James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only," but I think she spelled it as Bibi. Plus, she was a figure skater.

Does that mean they have to pass the ball at least five times before they can take a shot?

Sherelle (BeBe) George is a top rated guard from the American VI. AVERAGES 16 ppg, 4steals and 3assists. Apparently speed and defense are her game which sounds like several other recent recruits and K FRATZ. Brings back my worries about losing players to transfer because of lack of playing time. Still looking for some game video.

Sounds interesting. From what I read, she's a speed demon! Now, how women's basketball in the Virgin Islands compares to the U.S., I guess we'll find out.

Most well known I could find was PITT'S KARL KRAUSER listed from THE BRONX but originally from the AVI. Not a bad sample.

I think you'll get that with any program, but just judging by the roster alone, the Cal women look poised for another Elite Eight run this season.
