Seeing this team this year, I actually can say there is actually potential more than I have seen recently. Time will tell, but we definitely have a backcourt that can play.
Poore brought in Ohio Juco player of the year and Juco all-american Marlon Landingham. He is a 2-guard that can play. He was at Lakeland CC last year in Cleveland, OH. There have been some players in this league from Lakeland that have done well.
He also got Zakhi Fallen to transfer from Salem where he averaged 19.3 ppg against mainly MEC competition. He will run the point.
An intriguing player is 6'9" Alex Garcia who transferred in from Tennessee State where he averaged 7 ppg and 4.4 rpg. With a good backcourt, a big man with a good skill set can have quality nights in the MEC. We also brought in a 7'1" / 255 pound transfer from D2 Allen. He adds depth off the bench. Dilen Miller, who was once at Robert Morris, will provide some depth. Not a real deep team at all. But State seems to do much better when we have 3 ballers and every one else knows their role. I am fine with it.
Just when I wrote off Coach Poore to retirement, he has re-tooled the roster with some talent. I think Garcia, if the backcourt holds up, can really be a good find.
Football is toast after yesterday. Maybe one more win.
