If the host team sets up a ticketing process that is 100% fair to all fans, so that the host team has no advantage in getting their fans into the doors and in seats, then so be it I suppose. But would that ever happen? Doubtful.
Went through this all last year. NW meets all the requirements to host.

As for tickets, I'm pretty sure they are available to purchase online within a few hours of the regional announcements. Every time we've traveled we always purchased the all-session pass online before heading out so we had tickets in hand (printed off computer).

Right behind some courtside adults and had so me words for us all game. I'd didn't know if that's be the case at the Pentagon.

Best to let the Wolves have the regional so all can travel with no worries on having a seat ;)
I do know they are required to save 150 seats behind each bench so there should be at least 150 seats behind Northern bench each time they play. I know they have great attendance but not sure how well they travel. May be best to work through the athletic department if you have connections there.

Uh, yeah, 150 isn't going to cut it, lol

Last year I don't think the 4 teams who played in the earlier session brought a total of 150 fans altogether.

NW is similar to Northern it sounds like as far as traveling to support the team. If your fans travel well then I'd recommend getting the all-session pass asap if the regional is in Maryville.

Edit: The 150 is just for seating purposes since you mentioned not having a spot to sit before. Obviously can sit in any open spot in the gym but NCAA requires the 150 behind the bench for each team (fans have to get up and leave those sections after their teams game is over so next group can file in).

I'm not trying to toot the horn, but either way, that gym isn't going to be big enough if it is NSU/NW, which is sad. Winona is probably just as far if not further than Maryville I would guess, and has a bigger gym. Granted, not all school travel or have the fan support, but it's just really irritating. Oh well.

Also, how are we similar in exactly? If your gym at that size isn't full every single game when you have a championship contender, defending champ, and one of the top teams in the country, you aren't close.

I have no idea how far Winona is from Aberdeen but it's 7 hours or so to Maryville.

As for filling up a gym, Aberdeen is over twice the size of Maryville so direct comparison has to take that into account. I was speaking more to traveling to support the team. NW does it for football and basketball. Football is still king at NW. Obviously, you guys lead the nation ever year in attendance so I can't argue that.

Last year for the national championship the Pentagon was virtually sold out with NW fans accounting for 95% of that while traveling a good 5 hours to get there. It was mentioned on the broadcast multiple times how well NW fans traveled and the Fairmont St coach even said it caught them off guard and possibly intimidated them to come out and see the crowd in what ideally was a neutral court.

I'm glad they traveled well to the national title game. The size of gym doesn't matter when measuring a comparison of passion for fans. In a 2,000 seat gym you averaged just over 1,100 a game and finished 8th in tyour own conference. I get how football is king down there, but drawing for a national championship game (one game) doesn't equal the fact that no one goes all season. Not a shot at you, it is just unbelievable how you can have such a good product and so little support. I have had the same discussion with Laker about this at Manakto. Beautiful facility, usually great product, no one shows. Then again, they are competing with a top level d1 hockey team in town.

Again, all this means nothing without many more victories, and of course, if Aberdeen is allowed to be pleased with the presence of all of you fine posters. I will have laminated itereraries for all.

The only times any games will be in danger of selling out is when Northwest is playing. That's no different than it was in Winona a decade ago. The regional championship last year in Maryville sold out, and it was announced as such on social media. People were warned the day before the game not to drive down to Maryville if they didn't have a ticket.

And Winona didn't only sell out because of Northern fans, let's be honest. Maybe there were more Northern fans than they expected, but that probably would've still sold out if they played a number of teams.

Not every D2 program plays in a town of over 25,000 like Northern does. NWMSU is in a town of just 11,846, which is only bigger than NSIC towns Crookston (7,804), Wayne (5,573), Fayette (1,477).

Add to that, the MSU students are filling the library to standing room only as they take their studies so seriously that they can't make it to the games. :)

Well, Twitter, believe it or not, was not around during those games and social media wasn't close to what it is now. As I said, when we arrived the gym was already full at Winona (bigger gym than what NWMSU has) and they just kept selling tickets at the door knowing it was already full. You may have forgotten what times were like.

If you were there and would like to tell me that Northerns crowd was that insignificant in size, then more power to you. For those of us that were there, we saw a different sight.

I don't get the sense you're actually reading my posts. I talked about NW travels well and you bring up home crowds. I mention size of town and you bring up size of arena. I'm not disagreeing with the points you bring up.

As for attendance, I haven't seen this year's numbers but last year we averaged right around 1400 which put us 6th in the conference but 20th in the nation. Schools consistently higher than us have at least twice the population or are near metro areas. I'll take it for our very rural location (have to travel about 40 minutes before finding a town with more than 1000 people or so). Aberdeen is about 2.5 times the size of Maryville. Take 2.5 times the 1400 and see how that compares to Northern attendance.

As for regional discussion, I think Stranger hit it on the head and I'll leave it at that.

Just going to let it play out. I don't know what is so hard about thinking a gym a little bigger than half of what Winona used to be at an equal distance wouldn't fill up. My point was isf you average 1,100 at home, how many could possibly be attending away game? You mention school size and town size as factors we are smaller than SDSU and Aberdeen is smaller than Fargo, we out draw both. Some places just care about football and not about hoops, that's fine, I get it. Despite leading the NSIC in football attendance, I wouldn't compare us to most the miaa schools in football fans because, it isn't close.

Reading NSU4Life preach about 2006-2008 glory days like hes a Winona fan makes me remember this is only Northern's second NCAA tourney this decade. When something is that unfamiliar to you it's natural to get hot and bothered about minute details like tickets/seats. Imagine what it'll be like if SaTTher wins his first NCAA tournament game, please act accordingly.
