Watched the MIAA media today online. Elijah Clark is the preseason player of the year. Should be a great year in the MIAA. The conference graduated alot of good players. There should be alot of parity this season.

Re: MIAA top Returning Players for the 2018-19 season

Washburn has a tall order in replacing all-American Brady Skeens in the paint. It will occur by committee. Washburn has a lot of bodies inside with some experience but some youth as well. Dave Salach is a 3yr starter and is a 6'7" athlete that can post and play out on the floor. He has been in Brady's shadow but we are looking for a break out year from him. Jace Williams is a banger at 6'5" and a big time athlete but is a wide receiver on the football team. He will provide depth and a physical presence when he joins the team but he probably won't be available until December. The Ichabods have two nice Freshman big men in 6'9" Jonny Clausing and 6'7" Sevon Witt. They are going to be nice but they are Freshman so they have a ton to learn. 6'7" sophomore Will McKee has improved and is a jumping jack and played some valuable minutes last year. There is a lot of competition with this group in practice but I think there is potential and a huge upside here.

The strength of the Washburn team this year will be on the perimeter. Javion Blake is a 6'3" athlete that can shoot it and can slash to the hole. He is a 4-yr starter and is poised to have a big year. Tyus Martin started about half the games last year and his 6'4" frame and his ability to get to the rack and shoot it as well should give us a nice option on the other wing. We have a nice point guard in Tyler Geiman. He injured an ankle last year in the middle of the season and missed 5 games and barely played in 4 others because of the ankle but he is healthy now and he is a playmaker that can really score it as well. There is some nice depth with Portland State transfer, Devyn Wilson. He is 6'3" and can really shoot it. Jamaal David, another D-1 transfer from Charleston Southern is 6'6" and islong and skilled and should provide us with a different look on the wing. Those guys along with sharp-shooting Jalen Lewis a freshman from Liberty, MO and 3pt specialist Drew Pyle should give us some nice options.

I like this roster better than last year's team from top to bottom. I think we have 10 or 11 that can really play. The Bods have to be able to rebound and someone has to step up inside to replace what Brady Skeens gave us last year. Coach Ballard will have them playing hard and we will apply a lot of defensive pressure. I like our depth and I like our athleticism and scoring ability on the perimeter

Lastly, the league should be wide open. I think Lindenwood has the most starters back and I think Missouri Southern has some good returnees along with some good looking transfers. It is always a competitive league and I know Coach McCollum will have his guys ready. Looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out.

FYI - Ongula is scheduled to red-shirt for ESU this year. He didn't suit up for the KU game last night.
I think Hassan Thomas could have a really good year for the Hornets. He averaged 8.0 points and 4.8 rebounds last year.
Another newcomer to watch for ESU is Kam Rowan. He averaged 11.1 points and 3.7 assists for Upper Iowa last year.

It looks like the guys on the "MIAA Players to Watch" had a great tournament along with a couple of guys that are now on the radar as "player to watch". Witthus, Welty, Hawkins and Hudgins (tourney MVP) from Northwest and Hightower from Mo. West all had very nice tournaments. Milhollin and Hudson from Mo. West also had a nice weekend.

While not a returning player, Cam Martin of MSSU is now a player to watch after scoring 28 vs. St. Cloud and 49 vs. MSU this weekend. As dominating of a performance that I have seen from a center for a long time.
