  • Re: NWMSU

Well Magino did help put up 76 on Nebraska and then backdoor our way into an Orange Bowl and a win there. In terms of KU football, that is a thing of legendary status and no one has probably will ever do again.

Leach is more legendary for his press conferences.

To compare Sunny to any of these people is ludacris but I do enjoy how much he is ruffling the feathers of all his opponents.

Most people that know him from his time in Aberdeen really like him and would run through a wall for him. If I were to guess (and this is completely a guess) I would think his players at MoWest feel the same way. I would expect that he takes these players aside after the game and they talk about what caused the reaction. Again, this is all speculation and I don't know Sunny personally but I expect him to be a good college basketball coach. For what it's worth I believe both times this was brought up it was NWMSU posters, and I'm sure this type of coaching does not fit the culture.
Knew Sundance pretty well. People would do more than run through a wall for that guy and that has to do with how he treats others and his unconditional love for the people on his life. It's too bad that people are choosing to see things that don't exist with the guy. If you remember when Don Meyer came in we were down to like nine players and it took time to get guys that would buy in and fit. I'm willing to bet the change at coach w as difficult on some of the MoWest players and they may not mesh well with the intensity and style that Sunny brings. So, some of these players may not have an understanding yet or be uncomfortable with the situation of this new system. I would bet big that you are correct and that he did have a chat after the game to explain and discuss. While his juices never stop flowing the intensity of a game heightens any situation.

Good teams always find a way to win and that's exactly was NWMS did last night. I am sure there was some pressure to win on Senior night since they were celebrating their conference championship after the game. Some times a big crowd and the festivities after the game take away from the focus of the game. McCollum kept talking about on his interview that their concentration wasn't good. Maybe it was because they were looking ahead. Coach McCollum also said something interesting last night during the post game interview. He said, "I'm sure Washburn will have some random game plan ready for us". Not sure what he meant by that. I found it to be kind of a "random" comment. :)

Legends may have been an overreach, but at those schools, is it? I'm sure KU fans would have given anything to have Mangino back over the last 10 years. Tech is probably in the same place, but Leach put them on the map.

FWIW, there was one technical foul called last night, and it wasn't on the emotional guy. I'm sure that was a grave disappointment to all the #culture fans out there, and I have every confidence McCollum will face appropriate disciplinary action. :)

I wasn't at the game last night (the threat of freezing drizzle scared me off the road trip) and I didn't see any physical stuff from Wicks on the broadcast, so I can't speak specifically to that. I've not seen anything physical from him in the games I have attended, and my seats are a couple of rows up behind the bench. I'll say this - Missouri Western has embraced him. Attendance at home was up almost 500 this year; not all of that is because of Wicks, but his energy and enthusiasm and his efforts at community and campus outreach have built a lot of good will in a short amount of time.

I wasn't posting like I'm on some type of moral high ground... it's just very old school. In today's world, it's not something that seems to be tolerated and asked if they have any concerns... If they don't, great. Like I said, I'm not sure how I feel about it. When I played ball I had a coach shove me up against a wall and chew my a** and I didn't think anything of it, but that was a long time ago. I didn't know there was another instance, and I don't know who brought it up before. I mentioned because I saw it and they were playing against Northwest... it has nothing to do with me being a Bearcat fan. I was just there. I'm sure his players love him... I can see the energy he brings and they play hard for him.

As far as a ludicrous comparison? The anger and the passion... it was a very Bob Knight like moment. That doesn't mean he's an a**hole, bad person, or a bad coach.

Fair enough... that answers my question. I enjoyed listening to him on a couple of football broadcasts this year too... he seems to bring that same energy and excitement to everything he does.

I just feel like someone who goes through a check point and blows a .06 makes you feel uncomfortable and maybe something you discuss but I wouldnt compare them to someone who just got their 8th DUI after blowing a .125. One had a moment the other has a life style

That's actually a really good way to say that... I apologize for the comparison.

No worries, your question is fair if you noticed something like that. Just not a fan of the comparison. It's OK, I've done this a time or two on here, haha.

I'm just glad a Griffon topic can briefly derail a Northwest thread. Black is white, up is down, etc. :)

My guess is the very end of this video is the beginning of what was referenced. I will say it stood out to me last night as well.

Ben's emotion stood out as well.

Went back and looked at this on the webcast (10:18 in the second half). You can see the emotion of the immediate aftermath, and coach is definitely in his face, but not the actual moment when BHud and Sunny came together.
