Yes. I'm sure the crowds (and media) will flood to Fayette, Iowa or Wayne America if Upper Iowa or Wayne were to host it in the future.

Fayette will never host a tournament like that - don't have the infrastructure at the University or town. In the past we've hosted the D2 and D3 national wrestling tournament and have done that in Cedar Rapids. I believe we did a Volleyball regional as well (I think) and same thing. That has been our approach for regional/national tournaments and has worked well.

I think you misunderstood my point. My point was in response to wsuguy87 trying to poke fun at the NSIC for having scheduling issues by putting the conference tournament in Sioux Falls instead of letting the conference champion host the tournament on their home floor each year.

I was saying that his idea sounds great until you end up with a smaller school in a smaller town that isn't super easy to travel to winning the conference championship (for example, the way U-Mary nearly did back in the late 2000s, or the way Upper Iowa would've had a possibility of doing this year if a few games had gone differently for them). In those cases, it's likely that neither fans nor media members will be flooding to the host town to watch the games and cover the tournament any more effectively than they would be in Sioux Falls with inconvenient times.

That being said, I do think it's ridiculous that Upper Iowa has been allowed to "host" postseason tournaments while making the visiting teams stay nearly an hour away from the location of the games/matches. If Upper Iowa is allowed to "host" that way, then every school should have the option of "hosting" the visiting teams in the same way. If Augie were to host the Regional, they should have just as much right to tell teams they have to stay in Brookings or Mitchell or somewhere 45-55 minutes away if other schools (such as UIU) would be allowed to do it. They wouldn't do that, but I don't think it's reasonable that Upper Iowa could potentially host if they can't accommodate people closer than 55 minutes away from the host site.

The whole tournament is in Cedar Rapids, not Fayette. They have a nice venue there. We are hosting the 2023 National Wrestling tournament and all will be in Cedar Rapids. That is all I was pointing out, if we were to host something like that it would have to be at a bigger venue. I do agree that a smaller school/town could not accommodate it.

Ahhh, I see. There I go, misunderstanding you. Thanks for the clarification.

Did Fayette host the D3 finals in men's basketball (or was that a regional) before they went D2? Seems to me that Gustavus played down there.

Amazing how they do everything as a D2 conference that needs all the fans it can get to allienate their core fans. Amazing.

Not gonna happen --- see the ridiculous rotating of regular season games this season (which passed overwhlemingly with the woke administrators. ).

How are NSIC women's basketball fans not "core fans"?

Been there, done that, and it was glorious yet painful. 1999 I think, 2nd last year of the McDermott era. Long lines outside of a sold out Rice Auditorium. Absolutely packed the place on the first two days for a 6 team regional that also included USD, Kearney, Metro State (at the beginning of their multi year dynasty), Northern, and I think another RMAC team. Seating on the stage, people standing in the corners, and a fire marshal likely absent. USD brought plenty of fans, as did Kearney. D2 basketball was huge in that era, as all the NCC teams had a large following. I believe it was Wayne's first ever D2 postseason appearance. There was no tv coverage back then, so if you wanted to see the games you had to show up in person.

Wayne lost in the semis to Kearney by a single point in overtime, missing a shot from the corner as time expired. It was likely the most painful basketball memory in WSC history, but there has never since been an event on campus like that.

The gym was very quiet the next night, as Metro essentially brought zero fans but won rather easily in front of several hundred Kearney supporters. I just sat in the upper section with a few friends nursing a hangover. The best of times and the worst of times.

Was a regional playoff game, higher seed hosted. We've actually hosted two D3 regional games, once against Gustavus and then Redlands (out of Cali). So just one game, got beat both times, so not sure if we had won if we would have had another.

On a different note, the Bemidji State Women's team is hosting their first playoff game in 18 years! DeVille has done a nice job building the program up during her tenure there.

                              Congrats ladies!

There are certainly less of them and I don't think that is a dispute. You also have less women's fans traveling than men's fans, also not in dispute.
