Bloomfield College (CACC) announced today the suspension of 6 programs. Problem is they have only 12 teams. They will be left with 3 teams for each gender; Baseball, Softball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's Soccer, and Women's Volleyball. The teams being suspended are Men's and Women's Track & Field, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Women's Soccer, and Women's Bowling. Bowling and Cross Country are two of the cheapest sports to sponsor and have small roster sizes. The Cross Country roster also duplicates for nearly half of the Track & Field roster. For now it seems the Bears are on their way out of the NCAA.

Men's sports would include baseball, basketball, soccer and tennis; women's sports would include basketball, softball and volleyball. Unless Bloomfield can get a waiver, then it's going to be hard to get three more women's sports teams restored in order to get to the 4 men's sports/6 women's sports requirement to maintain NCAA membership. It makes me wonder of the remaining programs are going to be merged into D3 Montclair State's programs (Bloomfield College became a part of Montclair State University last year).

The East Region continues to contract with the closing of the College of Saint Rose (NE-10) taking effect at the end of this season. Bloomfield might end up the latest casualty in the D2 East Region ranks.

Bloomfield College does not sponsor Men's Tennis despite the team being listed in the menu. The team has not competed since 2017, there has been no news specific to the team since 2016. The NCAA also does not have the team listed. Bloomfield College meets the NCAA team sports and three season requirements, they will just need to get to the D2 5/5 or 4/6 total sports requirement. Extremely doubtful the NCAA would give a waiver and there is no precedence to do so outside of the Covid-related situations.

Just another college that is going to disappear. Ultimately they will have no sports.
