  • Benedictine to GLVC

Looks like we may be back to 16 soon of the committee approves. And with an IL school at that. Will make a great replacement to UWP as Lewis's travel partner, being in Chicagoland.

UWP drops the league to 14. Benedictine would be 15 again. Who do you think would be 16?

Tusculum is 806 miles from Kansas City. Heck, it's even an 8.5 hour drive from all the St. Louis-area schools.
Lincoln Memorial is one less hour (7.5) from all the STL-area schools.

No way either of those schools should even WANT to come to the GLVC, let alone be able to get enough votes from league members.

USI has a small window to exit out of what is becoming a garbage league. Please tell me the funds being invested in this new stadium is because we are in fact going D I?

No telling how successful they'll be in D2, but Benedictine played in the D3 National Championship game 2 years ago. Not sure your current coach could get to a National Championship game at any level.

Southwest Baptist, Lindenwood, and Missouri Southern all want out of the MIAA.

Only one out of 22 is over 5 hours, and 14 out of 22 are 3.5 hours or less away. You'd flip that, and worse, by moving to the GLVC.

They are 9-7 this year so chances are they are not going to do well.

Sorry, I'm fighting a stomach bug today and had a brain lapse. 15.

You'd have said the same thing about Jewell and Maryville last year. This year they're 15-2 and 13-3.

Point is, I haven't seen USI dominate the GLVC for a long time. Overall strength of the league isn't USI's problem.

                            Re: Benedictine to GLVC

It is when you are sinking $60 million dollars into a new arena and attendance across the entire league is not getting or going to get any better. The time has come for USI to make the plunge. Drury is actually another good example. Terrific basketball facility but not many show to games. DJ is right in that adding a Benedictine does nothing but hurt attendance. No one is going to care about coming to see them play regardless of how good we or they are.

So did a little digging over past several years. The year USI has what was probably the best team in the country with Jamar Smith and Co. we had a respectable 1,780 fans per game. But we also played Northern Kentucky and KWC that year. Fast forward to last year where we 25-5, we averaged 1,466. This year we are at 1,050 so far. Drury is at 1,316.

Digging in deeper into last year as reference we averaged 2,388 fans at the Bellarmine and Drury home games. That is a sizeable difference and shows the typical fan is interested in the quality of competition. If the new gym is going to seat 4,600+ fans it makes absolutely zero sense to stay in this league.

You're good! Didn't mean that combatively - just was curious your thoughts on getting back to an even number.

I think DUPanther's suggestions make the most sense -- especially SBU or LWOOD.
