    Re: Midwest stats 2016-17

I know you can go one better, and rank the regions based on those numbers. Take the 3, schnautza!

Geez I don't know how to accurately sum up an entire conference in one number, much less rank them all!
So, if you were to rank a conference, would you look for the most top-heavy (more chances of tournament seeds) or would you look at an overall picture considering depth of the conference - strength from top to bottom? That's two very different ways of comparing.

        Re: Midwest stats 2016-17

You have already done all the leg work with your conference and regional comparison stats. Logic would just assign a number between 1 and 8 in each category, with 1 representing the best and the worst being assigned 8. The number one ranking would go to the lowest scoring region as the 1 seed, and the other seven rankings would follow.

I am afraid you would be comparing apples to oranges, since there is not much cross competition between regions. One conference may have a lot of good offensive stats because they play a totally different style of ball such as West Liberty and their conference (forgot the name.) Its a lot like comparing the PIs across regions. Really doesn't show a true comparison.

            Re: Midwest stats 2016-17

I could do that, but I don't think the results would really be meaningful.
Of the stats I've listed, I'd imagine some would be weighted more than others. And some are linked, whether directly or inversely.
For example, if you have a high FG%, you probably also have a higher number of assists since an assist requires the shooter to make the basket. Also, you'd have a lower number of offensive rebounds, since you don't have to pick up all the bricks you throw.

Once again, great job, schnautza. These stats show overall improvement among the teams. These stats don't lie. It is going to be a hard fought post season. Who wants it more? These stats also show reversing trends, which gives us an idea of which teams are improving. Thank you!

Thanks schnautza. You r MVP ( most valuable poster)

Recently I've become enamored of the conference only stats which act as an imperfect correction for schedule variance when comparing teams in the same conference. You also can see how much preseason cupcakes distort stats. The conf only stats are especially enlightening when making head to head comparisons between travel partners, who play the same schedule at almost the same time.
