I believe that Davenport is going to play in the GLIAC tournament. What happens if Davenport wins the GLIAC tournament? Who would get the automatic bid from the GLIAC? Obviously, there will be a team or teams that get an at large bid from the GLIAC, but the auto bid could have an effect on how many teams from the GLIAC make the tournament.

What PI statistic is the difference maker in allowing a one loss team with a SOS of 114 to jump an undefeated team with a SOS of 31?

The main reason that Ashland is currently ahead of Bellarmine is their opponent's winning percentage. Although it's not directly from that. Ashland's average (the PI is an average) is slightly higher than BU because Ashland's opponents, on avergage, are in a higher winning bracket and thus games against them are worth more points. Bear in mind that even when a team doesn't play, their PI varies because their opponents may move into different winning percentage brackets. Bellarmine's PI actually went down when they beat S&T. The opponent's win percentage will probably tend to get closer together as the season closes, especially since there are a fair amount of mutual opponents. We have discussed before how "bracket creep" is one of the problems with the PI and one that is easily remedied by eliminating the brackets and just using an oppenent's winning percentage as a factor.

Remember the usual disclaimer, PI is not the primary criterion for selection or seeding.

Let's look at all the changes since 12/20. Bear with me, it's about to get mathy.

Ashland - 14 games played:
Previous opponent Seton Hill improved from 20% to 27.8%. This changed the points awarded from 12 to 15. Net effect = (15-12)/14 = +0.214
Ashland picked up a 17 point win, which was higher than their previous average of 16.462. Net effect = (17-16.462)/14 = +0.038
Total net change = +0.214 + 0.038 = +0.252
So 16.462 + 0.252 = 16.714

Bellarmine - 17 games played:
Previous opponent Wayne State improved from 21.4% to 25%. This changed the points awarded from 12 to 15. Net effect = (15-12)/17 = +0.176
Previous opponent Rockhurst fell from 50% to 43.8%. This changed the points awarded from 20 to 17. Net effect = (17-20)/17 = -0.176
Bellarmine picked up two wins, valued at 15 and 12 points each, both below Bellarmine's previous average of 17.00. Net effect = (12+15 - 2*17.000)/17 = -0.412
Total net change = +0.176 - 0.176 - 0.412 = -0.412
So 17.000 - 0.412 = 16.588

I know the PI alone isn't an end all, be all, but I can't see how there isn't a completely definitive top 8 at this moment. Even though UIndy and Ferris are only 10 spots apart nationally in the PI, there's no way a team with nine regional losses is even in the same stratosphere of a conversation with a team with three or four losses.

Yes, sorry. I've just trained myself to tip my cap with appreciation for the season they are having but then dismiss them just as quickly. Which honestly, is a huge bummer for them because this is obviously the year you want to be in contention for a top spot, unlike other years when there's just been a dominant team no one can touch.
