    Re: Rankings

In all honesty, I think the Atlantic or West regions have just of good a chance as the Midwest does this year. They may not have the depth that the Midwest has, but they've got a handful of teams that are very good this year.

      Re: Rankings

After last night's games, here is my breakdown of regions by counting how many teams are rated top-64

PI's (probably the worst metric for comparing regions)
      Atlantic - 8
      Central - 7
      East - 10
      Midwest - 8
      South - 5
      South Central - 9
      Southeast - 8
      West - 10

      Massey
      Atlantic - 7
      Central - 12
      East - 3
      Midwest - 14
      South - 3
      South Central - 11
      Southeast - 3
      West - 11

Wilson (VERY west heavy this season. I question it's validity this year. Like having a 9-9 team at #27. Also missing some games)
      Atlantic - 6
      Central - 11
      East - 4
      Midwest - 10
      South - 4
      South Central - 9
      Southeast - 2
      West - 18

      Bennett (Also West-heavy)
      Atlantic - 7
      Central - 11
      East - 0
      Midwest - 8
      South - 4
      South Central - 13
      Southeast - 3
      West - 17

        Re: Rankings

The Central region is hosting the Elite 8 if I remember correctly. That certainly is not hurting that region. All I was really saying is the Midwest has a better than average chance to win the national title.

Massey is really the gold standard in athletic ratings.

            Re: Rankings

As usual it's apparent that there are multiple tournament-worthy teams that will have to be left out from our region again this year. Ashland, Indy (now), Mich Tech (now), Lake Superior, to name a few. Especially with Indy and Mich Tech, their poor performance early in the season will have sunk them if they don't rally and end up winning their conference tourneys.

              Re: Rankings

I wouldn't want to be 7 or 8 going into the conference tournaments. Indy will have a real shot at winning the GLVC tournament. If Ferris keeps winning and they host the conf. tournament, they are likely to prevent a surprise winner. The real controversy would occur if KWC loses in their conf tourney (extremely unlikely). I think KWC is still good enough to make the tournament, but a team who is probably around the 30th best team in the region would make it.

                Re: Rankings

Ferris put it to GVSU last night. They have two road games left, Wayne St. and Northwood. Hardest game may be Michigan Tech at home. Will be very difficult to top them if they win out. Twenty three in a row would be a heck of a statement. Frankly, only BU would have an argument and they would need to win out as well which would put them on a 15 game winning streak. I think at this point Ferris will have an easier time winning out than BU due to their home court advantage in the GLIAC tourney.

These are really great points, Knight. With three auto bids in the region, two of those are really up for grabs this year (I'm penciling in KWC to not lose the rest of the way, including conference tournament). Teams like UIndy, Quincy, Truman, Drury and Lewis in the GLVC, along with Ashland, Michigan Tech, and Lake State in the GLIAC are all teams that - under the right circumstances - could run the table and steal a conference's auto bid. Some of those teams are likely to be ranked, but I would guess they would be - at best - in that 6, 7, 8 range anyway, meaning they had better win to stay in.

Teams I think - at the moment - can feel a little bit better (in no particular order) are: Bellarmine, USI, Parkside, Ferris, Findlay, KY Wesleyan

                    Re: Rankings

6.5 hours from Louisville to FSU.

Nothing personal, but we really need them to lose a game or two.

Is Big Rapids bigger or better than Grand Rapids? Grand Rapids sounds like it should be prettier than Big Rapids. I guess the white man who first came upon the place that is now Grand Rapids said, "my those rapids are Grand!". Similarly, the less poetic guy who found Big Rapids must have just said "them rapids is BIG!"

                            DIISIDA regional poll this week:

                            1. Bellarmine (3) 18-3 30 1
                            2. Ferris State 17-3 27 3
                            3. Southern Indiana 19-2 24 2
                            4. Wisconsin-Parkside 17-3 21 4
                            5. Kentucky Wesleyan 18-2 18 5
                            6. Quincy 18-4 15 7
                            7. Findlay 15-5 12 6
                            8. Truman State 16-5 9 8
                            9. Grand Valley State 13-7 4 NR
                            10. Indianapolis 11-8 2 NR

Looks as though the 3 voters are pretty much identical on the top 8 with a little variance on who should be 9 and 10. I think it is pretty much right on for now.

I would LOVE to see KWC play UWP and USI in Louisville, Kentucky.

Wesleyan's last game as a member of the GLVC was a loss to UWP at the Ford Center.

The Panthers also lost to UWP in Wisconsin last season in the regional tournament.

Just playing in Kentucky in the regional would be lovely.
