Hawaii-Hilo hires new coach

Hawaii-Hilo hires Kaniela Aiona from Menlo College in California, where he won big after an impressive rebuild when he took over the program. Menlo qualified for the NAIA national tourney before being cancelled this year due to Covid-19. Reading his bio, great background:

A good article here that also mentions Coach GE Coleman. Too bad Coleman was unable to get over the hump of turning around their program. He was a good recruiter but couldn't quite build that good core of players.

Coleman has been hired by Coach Carl Howell as an assistant at JUCO Skagit Valley College. CWU basketball great Mark McLaughlin, who was once an assistant for Coleman in Hawaii and also played for Howell at Tacoma CC, has also been hired as an assistant at SVC. Sounds like a gig that is sort of beneath Coleman, who could've gotten a head or assistant gig at another 4 year program (NAIA if not D2). But Howell and him go way back and SVC is a top program in the NWAC.
