While it does seem early to make the call with regard to basketball season, they are likely making the call because fall athletics start in July and August, so are right around the corner and decisions about having students on campus and getting dorms and dining on campus ready require early decisions to get things rolling one way or the other. It's not likely that campuses will see a real clear path by early to mid summer. Having students on campus in dorms seems like a big step right now and students aren't going to want to travel to college again, only to be sent home a month or two later again... And having athletics move forward involves the whole conference moving forward. Unless Texas has its very own conference just like the CCAA, transferring to Texas isn't likely to help; especially if cases start to surge in Texas.

In the end, while it might seem early, it might help students and athletes sort of figure things out rather than waiting weeks and weeks longer not really knowing what's going on. Sometimes knowing one way or the other is way better than just the daily battle of not knowing. The ability to plan is what CCAA students have now that nobody else does. Sometimes that's helpful even if it's not the first choice outcome.

The CCAA is very wrong to make this decision so early, with 4 months before the season even begins. This is terrible for all of the athletes. However, maybe it is for the best to make this call now, so that those athletes can have time to transfer to other programs, perhaps in Texas which is already reopening things.

Bummer for the athletes, still hoping for a hoop season for everyone. The CCAA has been a great non-conference hoops partner for the GNAC, hopefully the PacWest and GNAC can schedule some more games against each other in non-conference play. Best wishes CCAA, hope to see you in January.
