  • Off-Topic: Region cross country, GNAC takes individual titles

I tried to private message Runnin' Cat on this, but it didn't go through. Anyway, for those interested in cross country, Alaska-Fairbanks Kendall Kramer won the West Region (GNAC, CCAA, Pac-West combined) women's race in Monmouth on Saturday in the wind and heavy rain; and CWU's Johan Correa won the men's race, both very impressive times considering the weather. WWU won the women's title and was third in the men's race. Chico State won the men's team title.

Hey, Yeah, Kendall is a local, home grown Fairbanksan too. She has at times been more known for her nordic skiing (they don't compete in the GNAC for that sport of course though), but right now she's definitely getting more attention from her running the last few years. There are some other great runners on the Fairbanks women's cross country team right now too! Nice to see them doing really well!

I was thrilled for CWU's Johan Correa. Great victory for him.

Correa 17th at nationals in the men's 10K race for CWU; Kramer 23rd in the women's national 6K race. Great performances for both at nationals.

CWU has a new coach for cross country and T/F this year after former HC Kevin Adkisson's contract was not renewed (was at CWU for 30 ish years). It'll be interesting to see which direction CWU goes in terms of recruiting and competition. We had a handful of years in the 90s and early 2000s where the women's team was a force. Not so much this year. More of a smattering of individual accomplishments every other year or so.

Adkisson never did anything to bring the alums in to the fold. We held reunions at the Arlt Invite and he never reached out or even met any of us. Not sure what that was about, but it really stunted the program. A lot of us went in to coaching and I know a couple of kids that would have gone to CWU but were not impressed.

Will be interesting to see what direction they go.
