  • GNAC Pre-Season Polls released

CWU Men, WWU Women, picked to lead GNAC basketball

    Men

    Women

No surprise for either top team. CWU had a heckuva 10-game stretch to end the season and recruited well. WWU has to be one of the most consistent teams ever for the GNAC.

Not surprised where Western Oregon is picked here. It is kind of interesting how far the program has dropped in just a few years after being really good for nearly a decade.

Speaking of Western Oregon, it'll be interesting to watch how year two of the women's coach's tenure starts and finishes. Hopefully better than last year's schedule that ended in 5+ forfeits.

I was as shocked as anyone that the coach returned this season. Apparently there was an investigation and she was cleared. That said, it's going to be difficult to bring in quality players. We've been sub-par to really bad in women's hoops for about 30 years now and there's no urgency to change things, which is odd.

No where for our men's program to go but up from this pre-season poll... That's always good... I think. I will be interested to see the style of ball and how things go, but it's going to be a transition year. I am going to go to the alumni game this weekend though, as I hope that Brad Oleson will be playing for the alumn. Brad recently retired from a long professional career (Spain?) and moved home to Fairbanks or North Pole and his jersey was retired. Would be really fun to see him in action again. For those who haven't followed the GNAC for a very long time, Oleson was a hometown product out of North Pole and was the GNAC POTY 2 or 3 years in a row when the Nooks also went to regionals like 3 years in a row or something. Ostanik was their assistant coach at the time.

On the women's side here... welp, first year in a long time that we aren't dead last in the pre-season poll, but that also means there are more places to go than up. Milo Griffin joined the women's staff as an assistant this year after being that and the stand in head coach for a few games last season for the men.

We'll see. Hoping to see some good games at the Patty, but expectations for more than a few of those are low.

Hoping CWU can sweep both the reg season and tournament titles. They are loaded this year in all positions. I am excited to watch their new 7'2" big man.

I remember that dude, I'm sure a lot of fans do. Quality player who stayed home. I think that's cool.
