I did this a few years ago, but I created a ranking solely based off playoff success for D2 football. The first list will feature all schools who have competed in D2 since 1973. Deeper the playoff run the more points you earn.

Seems as though a ranking based on this century would be more relevant, especially since the vass majority of today's players weren't even born in the 1900s.
On a side note the team with the most championships in D1 is Yale.
Times have certainly changed.

I've done one before of this century. Doesn't change that much overall other than removing a lot of the school's no longer in d2 for the most part. I'll see if I can find it.

The age of the players also has nothing to do with the historical success of programs other than being used as a recruiting point. You have to use historical to recruit, how else would USC get people! lol

I love seeing Delta State in these rankings! We just need to be more consistent. It seems like the last decade we've been hit or miss. We go through spurts of being average, with a few good seasons mixed in.

And just because it's been too long since we all complained about regional rankings....here is what the playoffs would look like if the top 7 in each region made the imaginary playoff.

Super Region 4
1 Minnesota Duluth receives bye.
2 Minnesota State host Angelo State
3 CSU-Pueblo host West Texas A&M
4 Colorado Mines host Texas A&M-Kingsville

Super Region 3
1 Northwest Missouri receives bye.
2 Grand Valley host Saginaw Valley
3 Ferris State host Harding
4 Pittsburg State host Wayne State (MI)

Now is when the hilarious part kicks in and of course it's in SR2

**-Albany State would jump from 9th in SR2 into the 7 spot via earned access. Thus leaving West Georgia out of this imaginary playoff.

4 West Chester host IUP

**-If being in the top 10 was the cut off for earned access and not top 9, Slippery Rock would be out and replaced by New Haven.
