  • NCAA travel costs?

    https://footballscoop.com/news/head-...e-playoff-runs

If this is completely accurate I wonder how the rest of the teams in the playoffs haven't spoken up. And how many folks to Harding take on the road compared to other teams? Seems like an interesting issues.

I have no reason to doubt Coach Simmon’s numbers. I usually send two donations a year, but I’m sending third to help with the additional costs associated with three road trips (2 flights to Michigan) this year. Curious about other teams in other regions and what their portion of the costs associated with PO travel. At least in the GAC we don’t have travel budgets of schools in the LSC.

Simmons is just doing his job trying to raise.money.

Harding has a bigger endowment than GV. He's BSing like a used car salesman.

        Athletic endowment? Or academic endowment?

Harding's athletic budget is $8.5 million, compared to GVSU's $19.2 million.

I’m sure he was referring to total endowment. Harding’s $220m on 5k students vs GVSU $210m on 25k students. Whatever you want to call it small colleges are going under left and right. You have to have a way to generate revenue or offset costs if you want to survive in this space for long. Fundraising goes a long way. I’ll gladly send my alma mater an extra check this year.

            Overall endowment.
My point is that Harding is doing fine. Sure schools thrive on donations, and the coach is just doing his job as a fundraiser, but the sob story is a little disingenuous at best.

Our essential travel party - players, coaches, GAs, team doctor, managers is right at 100 people. Our bill for essential people will be at least 30K for each round and that does not include coaches wives or seniors that don’t get to dress out.

OK so when I joined this forum Brandon promised me there would be NO MATH...so...please someone check my work. Coach says they are going to be down 175K from the three games...I thought it was 30K per game to cover the essential travel party per game...times three games...3 times 30K is 90K so anything on top of that clearly is optional spending in my way of thinking. If ya want to bring all those folks cool...do it...but dont come on like you couldnt have saved that cash. Is the NCAA ripping teams off? Maybe...would like to see a breakdown of costs before I decide but its clear that Harding did not HAVE to spend that much money, they made a decision to spend it...and when comparing budgets at schools consider how many sports they sponsor. Total number of athletes and frankly how much do they travel, etc. 200 kids on GVSUs tracks teams cost a tad more than the cheerleading team.

Good on the coach for reaching out to the brotherhood but lets not start a go fund me for them just yet. I do like Harding taking wives and players but...if ya cant afford it dont do it.
