1. Northwood vs Thomas More - I didn't see Northwood having to score 45 points to win on Saturday but they needed every point on a 42-45 win over Ashland. Two of the best defenses in the conference coming into the game and there ended up being well over 1,000 yards of total offense. Northwood got a wake up call early in the game giving up a 76 yard TD run on the second play of the game. The Timberwolves knew they were in for a fight but Northwood has shown they can win a 10-7 slugfest against a team like Hillsdale and also win the 45-42 shootout type game. The score is a little deceiving as Northwood held a double digit lead most of the 2nd half and Ashland scored with 11 seconds left in the game to make it look even closer but still giving up 567 yards to an offense that has struggled most of the year in very concerning for Northwood as they prepare to host a 1st round playoff game if they can close out the season with a couple of wins. Sorry Northwood for not picking you last week as it is just so hard to go undefeated. I won't make that mistake again. Northwood wins 52-10.
2. Findlay vs Lake Erie - Findlay has one of the best defenses in the country and they flexed their muscles again this weekend shutting out Thomas More 49-0. Findlay is just quietly going about their business and seem to be getting better and better. Not much to say about the game Saturday as they dominated every aspect of the game and I would say they need to work on something but couldn't see much. The Oilers are a well coached team and with that defense they will be in every game. Can Findlay close the deal? Findlay has 2 tricky games to end the season. Of course they end the season with rival Tiffin but they play Lake Erie this week who just beat the Dragons in the upset of the year. The Storm have talent and plenty of team speed. The Oilers need to lock in and get it done. Findlay wins 31-7.
3. Hillsdale vs Ashland - Hillsdale wins in a blowout but I need some answers from DaleDude or a Hillsdale fan. I was led to believe that the Chargers just didn't have a QB that could throw the ball over 25 yards and that's why they ran the QB over 20 times a game. Then as I sat down and took a sip of my drink a Hillsdale QB launched a ball 50 yards in the air and hit the WR in stride as I spit up my drink all over myself. Like wtf was that? Yes, the WR dropped it but seriously the WR had to be as surprised as me as I have not see a Hillsdale QB throw a ball like that since Teslaa was wandering around on the field. Then QB #5 leads Hillsdale down on one of the best 2 minute drives I have seen all season. The ball comes out of his hand like a real QB! Honestly watching him throw the ball I was thinking this could be the 2nd best throwing QB in the league. So I got curious and looked him up. He is a 5th year guy who started at the beginning of the 2024 season. Are you telling me this gunslinger has been on this team all year and the last few years? He was 7-9 with a throwing and rushing TD playing with mostly backups but it was obvious with the WRs the Chargers have he could of been the answer Hillsdale needed all year. The ball just comes out of his hand different and he is a big guy. Coming into the season I said the only thing that could hold Hillsdale back this year was the QB and coaching. I give credit to the DC as the defense has made some changes over the last few years and have been incredible but the OC and head coach need reviewed. They have always had trouble reading talent and they always seem to have "their guys" playing and not always the best players. QB #5 is their 4th string QB and I want anyone to go watch his film and tell me he isn't the best QB option for a team loaded with WRs. Anyways #5 Cole Canter got his chance after the 2 QBs in front of him both got concussions in the game as the coaching staff has hurt 3 QBs this year. I don't think they know QBs are not made to run the ball 20 times a game. Hillsdale please explain to me why QB #5 would not be given a chance when even the announcers were shocked how good he was. With that defense, which by the way only gave up 15 yards in the 1st half before the backups came in, Hillsdale should probably be hanging a championship banner at the end of the year. Things could get worse this week with Ashland coming to town as they just gave Northwood all they wanted. The Chargers defense will be tested and they need to prove themselves one more time in order for Hillsdale to win. Who plays QB this week for the Chargers? QB1 broken shoulder, QB2 Concussion, QB3 Concussion, QB4? Hillsdale is so conservative on offense I don't think they play the best QB and lose a close one. Ashland wins 9-7.
4. Tiffin vs Ohio Dominican - I know Tiffin beat Hillsdale but when you lose to Lake Erie I have to drop ya some. Tiffin with everything on the line and playing at home how do you lose that game? Well the biggest problem is the offense which is very surprising to say. I think the oline is struggling and that's never a good thing. Trouble running the ball with two excellent RBs is very concerning and they don't have the weapons to push the ball down the field. The Dragons defense is very good and athletic but the last few weeks have proven the Tiffin offense needs to improve or this won't be a good last few games to end the season. Ohio Dominican coming into town this week who would love one more nice win to end the season. I think Tiffin bounces back. Tiffin wins 24-10.
5. Walsh vs Kentucky Wesleyan - Walsh played a very good game and won 29-25. The Cavaliers led 29-13 and gave up a couple of late TDs to make this game a little more interesting in the end. Walsh did seem to control the game and deserved the win. Walsh is having a very nice year but they would love to finish the year with a couple of big victories and I am sure they will be working on a few things this week against the Panthers as they prepare for their last game of the year versus Northwood. Walsh needs one more victory to guarantee a winning season and I think they get it this week in a big way! Walsh wins 55-10.
6. Ashland vs Hillsdale - Ashland played their best offensive game of the season but the defense couldn't stop Northwood in a 45-42 loss. I actually think if they played Walsh again I would probably take the Eagles as I think they might be the 3rd best team in the league at this point in the season. My own opinion but I do think Ashland has improved greatly from the beginning of the year and are the best 3-6 team in the country. The improvements in the offense over the last 3 weeks which is averaging nearly 49 points a game over that time is the main reason for my thinking. The Eagles have found a passing game to support their run game which Northwood had trouble controlling. Can they do it this week against what I think is the best defense in the league in Hillsdale? Depending on what Hillsdale does at QB will determine this game I believe. If Hillsdale just wants to play the running QBs I don't think they score on Ashland but if they start the throwing QB all bets are off. I'll take the Ashland's coaching staff to pull this out with 3 FGs. Ashland wins 9-7.
7. Ohio Dominican vs Tiffin - Ohio Dominican has played in a ton of close games this year and lost another one Saturday 29-25 to Walsh. The Panthers never give up and are never out of games. Tune into the 4th quarter of nearly every Ohio Dominican game and you are in for a treat. The Panthers just couldn't pull off the comeback this week but they have another great chance for a victory Saturday. The Panthers have to travel to Tiffin but the Dragons are struggling on offense and they have a chance to pull the upset. If Ohio Dominican can control the run game as the last few teams have against Tiffin then they can pull off the win. Tiffin just has so many athletes on the defense I just don't think the Panthers can score enough. Tiffin wins 24-10.
8. Lake Erie vs Findlay - The Storm pulled off their biggest win in many many years beating Tiffin 21-14. Lake Erie held a 21-7 lead going into the 4th quarter and used a late defensive stand in their own territory to preserve the win. How did they do it? By controlling the Dragons run game. Tiffin and their great RBs only averaged 2.9 yards a carry. Lake Erie didn't win the stat game but they won on the scoreboard and that's all that matters. With 2 interceptions and one being a pick 6 the Storm defense was the difference coming through in clutch times. Just a huge win for the program and it does show the kind of athletes Lake Erie has as they have great team speed. I do hope they can keep this momentum going for the rest of the year and not be happy with a single win. Go get it Storm! Tough game this week versus Findlay and that Oiler defense. Findlay is playing high level ball right now and hopefully Lake Erie can keep it close. Findlay wins 31-7.
9. Thomas More vs Northwood - Thomas More had a disappointing game in not that they lost but rather they just were never competitive against Findlay. The Oilers defense can do that to a team as they held the Saints to just 11 first downs and 171 yards. Well get ready as in comes Northwood this week and the league's best player Ethan Hamby. Northwood wins 52-10.
10. Kentucky Wesleyan vs Walsh - A few good things this week against Hillsdale. Sure the Panthers only had 15 yards in the first half against the Chargers starting defense but they had 147 yards and 21 points against their backups in the 2nd half which is the best they have done against backups this year. Something to build on for next year maybe? I don't see a win this year. Walsh wins 55-10.
2. Findlay vs Lake Erie - Findlay has one of the best defenses in the country and they flexed their muscles again this weekend shutting out Thomas More 49-0. Findlay is just quietly going about their business and seem to be getting better and better.
