  • Question

    Is this board still active?

  • #2
The guys that used to post here either moved conferences (shepherd fans) or school has closed (ND Fans, AB fan). Concord fans will show up when they are good, otherwise they disappear. Rest of the programs have no posters essentially... so yes this board is just mostly you WL fellas going back and forth. Hopefully, you guys join the PSAC or GMAC in the future lol.

This is the football thread in the summer. The board as a whole slows down in the summer and certainly true here. The MEC thread used to be a wild and wolly place with many passionate posters. Still recall with great amusement the back and forth between CarlBigBoy and CaptainCruntch...They were worth the time to read every day.

The D2Fiitball forum as a whole seems to be much less passionate than back in the day.

The MEC football thread will pick up a little when the season begins but it is a pail shadow of what it was

who wins the mec on 2024?

Does UNC Pembroke win it all in their last year before playing conference Carolina schedule?

why don’t the mec and conference Carolinias make a football only conference to match the psac w/ 1 non conference schedule?

which mec school lost the most talent?

There was speculation about how UNCP was going to ride into the MEC and show us how REAL football was played. Never really happened.

If I were a betting man I'd put my money on UC this year. Fairmont is a hot and cold team...some years they are good, then others bad. Maybe UNCP pulls it together and claims a title as they move back to more hospitable areas.

Don't think a "football only" conference with Conf Carolina makes much sense. Makes more sense for the MEC and GMAC to merge and I don't see that happening either.

Based on what I'm hearing, combined with the way they finish the last several games last season with their new coach, the UNC Pembroke Braves will be very tough to score on, and to try and beat.

They led the nation in tackles for losses last year, and they basically have everyone coming back + some excellent transfers.

I have a feeling that they will roll through the MEC this year.

Don't know if I'd get too excited about shutting out Glenville and WVW two of the last three weeks of the season. Offensively, both were back markers in the league. For example, WVW scored 8 TD's...ALL SEASON! They scored 7 or less in five of their 10 games. Likewise I wouldn't read too much into the 67-21 shellacking of Concord to close the year. Their "signature" win in their 1-10 season came against WVW!

Still, returning the majority of a pretty good defense should stand them in good stead this year. Will they finally get over the hump to claim the MEC title? Possibly, but UC, Frostburg and Fairmont will have more than a little to say about it.

Shepherd was dominant. Then they were gone. NDC was dominant. Now they are gone. Will a MEC program elevate above the rest and fill the void at the top?

I'd sure have a wall built around Frostburg State. The neighbor conference is shopping.

Purely my opinion (and that of many others), but I suspect they will bolt to the PSAC.

According to the MEC Constitution, departing members are required to stay MEC Members for 3 years and 1 day from the end of the league year that they requested to depart. So say a MEC team announced they were leaving today, they wouldn't be eligible to actually leave the conference until June 1, 2028.

If a team does leave before the 3 years, they are subject to a fine of up to 6 years of membership dues.

My advice to the MEC is that they enforce these rules on any school that announced it is leaving. And let it be known through channels that any conference poaching will face a scheduling moratorium with the MEC.

lol when was the last time a conference at any level was able to enforce anything in their constitution for departing members?

Don't know...Probably quite a few teams that considered moving that didn't when faced with either a hefty fine or years to actually move.

Challenging a Conferences right to enforce a clause that a school voluntarily agreed to in court is a risky and expensive proposition.

With regard to Wise and Shepherds move, my understanding is that they both paid the penalty to the MEC. Also heard that they had to forfeit their portion of NCAA money that the Conference gets. That is also part of the penalty that leaving schools face.
