OK, since there are some games under the lights next Thursday, I think we can get the Pick'Em going a little bit earlier than normal. We are oh so close to kicking off for real and all the anticipation and hopes for every team turn into either good, great, nor not-so-great reality.
Picks will be due by the time of the first kickoff, which will be Thursday August 31 at 6:00 PM Eastern time.
And now for the games:
Thursday, August 31:
Frostburg State (MEC) at New Haven, 6:00 PM - FSU was picked to finish second in the MEC and beat MEC champ Notre Dame (Ohio) last year. They have completed their Division 2 transition period and are now eligible for the Division 2 playoffs. New Haven was picked to win the NE10 for the fourth straight season and have made the Division 2 playoffs 3 of the last 4 seasons. This might not only be a big one for the regional rankings, but these teams could possibly meet again in the playoffs.
St. Anselm at Millersville (PSAC), 7:00 PM - St. A's was picked fifth in the NE10 while Millersville is working their way up and were picked fifth in the PSAC East. The Hawks travel to Amish country with the hopes that their offense isn't slowed down to horse-and-buggy speed.
Pace at East Stroudsburg (PSAC), 7:05 PM - Pace, picked to finish fourth in the NE10, begins life after Carlton Aiken on the road against an ESU team picked fourth in the PSAC East. Can Pace reload?
Saturday, September 2:
Kutztown (PSAC) at Assumption, 12:00 PM - The annual meeting between NE10 champs Assumption and PSAC East contender Kutztown was won by the Greyhounds 3-0 last year in a defensive struggle. Oddly enough, last year's game was also at Assumption. Both teams look to return to the playoffs this season.
Southern CT State at Shepherd (PSAC), 12:00 PM - Shepherd won handily at SCSU last year on their way to winning Super Region 1 but look to reload after losing QB Tyson Bagent to graduation and the NFL.
Franklin Pierce at Lake Erie (GMAC), 1:00 PM - FPU was picked seventh in the NE10 and Lake Erie eighth in the GMAC. The teams last played in 2021, a 31-20 Lake Erie win.
West Chester (PSAC) at Bentley, 1:00 PM - The annual meeting between these teams has WCUPA picked third in the PSAC East and Bentley third in the NE10. It is Saj Thakkar's debut as Bentley head coach. Last year's meeting went down to the wire with a blocked extra point the difference. Another possible playoff matchup if things break right for both teams.
AIC at Central CT State (D1 - Northeast Conference), 6:00 PM - AIC leads the all-time series 29-13-3 but the teams haven't played since 1992, a 40-12 AIC win. AIC was picked eighth in the NE10 and CCSU was picked in a tie for sixth in the NEC with Wagner. There may be possible precedent for an upset - the last time CCSU played an NE10 team, Southern CT State beat them 28-21 in 2021.
Good luck with your picks!
(Memo to the NE10 main office - your web site’s football schedule is not complete. It was missing the SCSU and Pace games.)
