  • Southern Connecticut moving on from Tom Godek

Southern Connecticut has announced that Tom Godek will not continue as head coach. Anyone have any info or thoughts on why this is happening in late January? If they want to make a change it should have happened in November. There might be more to the story that isn't public but I feel like a coach that's been with your program for 24 years deserves better.

Coach Godek is a good man and a quality coach. I wish him well. He overachieved with the amount of support he has.

I hope they bring in a quality coach that can give the Owls their swagger back.

On a side note, along with Southern Connecticut, Bentley is still searching for a head coach? AIC named Dan Chipka as their man plus New Haven is looking for an DC. Am I missing anything?

Bentley named an interim HC - CJ Scarpi. He was the OC the last two seasons - former Bentley QB, Class of '17.

Bentley had very little interest last time the job was open. [2 yrs. ago] Wouldn't surprise me if Scarpa runs Spring Ball and is then named the Head Coach.

So are they looking outside for another OC or will they promoting within? And it looks like coach Saj Thakkar brought both Pat McGowan, an offensive line coach, and Miles Ahles, a defensive coordinator to Davidson in North Carolina?

Bentley doesn't do anything quickly. It's been a month since Thakkar left. Bentley has been the model of instability since Kavanaugh left

Could be a challenging season for the Falcons. Besides rebuilding the coaching staff, they lost A TON of players

The CT university system has struggled financially for quite a while…they did an overhaul of the system about a decade ago with the promise it would help efficiency and cut costs, but from what I’ve heard, it accomplished neither. Now they are dealing with enrollment declines since the pandemic too.

                https://ctmirror.org/2024/12/05/ct-s...e-cscu-report/

I couldn’t tell you if non-academic costs are also impacted, but from what I’ve seen in other parts of the forum here, there are a lot of schools struggling to manage the costs of athletic departments.

All that said, regardless of the circumstances, it’s going to be really hard to replace him with someone better. The program was improving, albeit slowly, but they were playing hard and were getting more competitive.

Surprised me they got it done so quickly. The AD showed no sense of urgency with the last two hires. Made it difficult to put together a quality staff. The staff under Reynolds [2022] was a real clown show.

Wishing Godek all the best. I remember when he was at AIC.

An update for SCSU, looks like they’re going to work on the coaching search in March by having “listening sessions”. Guessing they’ll interview someone at some point too:

They are 5 weeks from firing the HC and this is what they are announcing. What a joke. They should have interviewed candidates by now, not create a quality wish list for the perfect hc into mid march. Very unfair to the current players. The timing of this firing is just bizarre. They should have fired him after the season if that was the route they wanted to go.

My guess: they have someone and their contract doesn’t expire for a bit

SCSU may not have a Head Coach, but they've posted their schedule.

They show a Week #1 BYE. Anyone know if that is finalized - or are they looking for an 11th game?
