  • OT: Professor Arthur Martel - Sports Economist at IUP passes away

Please excuse me if I am the only poster affected by this but I just saw the obit in the IG for an old professor of mine. Dr. Arthur Martel passed away. Dr. Martel was a huge sports fan and frequently referred to the economics of sports in his classes. When he taught labor economics he often made examples of the impacts of players' unions. I still refer back to some of the things he taught after several decades. You know you see these things online and it's shocking.

Arthur H. Martel, 78, of Indiana, died at Indiana Regional Medical Center on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019.

I took a course with him called The Economics of Sports. It was a trial course. I saw him two years ago and he said hello to me by name ... after 15 years or so.

I had him in three different classes. Wonderful educator.
