It turns out this young man is also pretty bright and has offers of some sort from 3 IVIES, YALE, PENN and COLUMBIA, and yet seems content to follow his HS teammate STEVENS GRAVES to the Mon Valley. Don't get me wrong I love intelligent solid linebackers but in what universe do you pass on an IVY LEAGUE education to play D2 football in Western PA. Any thoughts???
Edit: Not to take anything away from a Cal U education. Just being realistic.

It's also possible that their attraction was to his grades/scores but he realized he wouldn't fit in. In my experience Western PA fits better with the Southeast than with the elite Northeast.

Families with an income of less than $75,000 are not expected to pay anything. The opportunity to walk into a job interview with a fellow YALE alum or even another IVY is one of the most significant examples of privilege out there. He can certainly come out with a degree and minimal debt from CAL U, but that is nothing like an Ivy League degree. Hope he's making the right choice.

My only guess is cost. According to this web site (http://www.scholarshipstats.com/football.html) I have following as far as cost for tuition and fees is concern:
Columbia: $57,208
Penn: $53,534
Yale: $51,400
Cal U: $10,840
That is a big difference. Maybe he feels like he can earn an academic merit money in addition to the athletic scholarship at Cal U. Who knows....
