Playoff Rematches

In the VSU/UWG game thread, there was a reference to the team that won the regular-season game typically losing a rematch in the playoffs. I took a quick look at VSU's history. If I get time later, I'll look at the other schools.

2019: Beat UWF in the regular season, lost the rematch.
2015: Lost both to UWG.
2014: Lost to UNA, won the rematch. Beat UWG, lost the rematch.
2012: Lost to UWA, won the rematch.
2010: Beat UNA, lost the rematch.
2008: Lost both to UNA.
2007: Won both over UNA.
2005: Beat UNA, lost the rematch.
2004: Lost to Albany State, won the rematch.
2001: Won both over FVSU.
2000: Lost both to DSU.
1994: Lost both to UNA.

2017: Lost both to UWF.
2015: Won both over VSU.
2014: Won both over DSU. Lost to VSU, won the rematch.

2010: Lost to UNA, won the rematch.
2008: Beat UNA, lost the rematch.
2007: Lost both to UNA.

2000: Won both over VSU.

2017: Won both over DSU.
2012: Beat VSU, lost the rematch.
2011: Beat UNA, lost the rematch.

For teams that are static, I could see this being a problem and for years VSU had a static offense, they ran it well and the onus was on the opponent to stop it. Most of time they couldn't stop us, but sometimes they did, especially after getting a second look. Coach Goff answered a question related to this on this week's show, his game plan is more flexible, so I'm not as concerned about a rematch as I have been in the past.

North Greenville:

2016: Lost both to UNA.

Shorter has no playoff appearances.

Love it. I was at DSU from 2007-2012, so I remember us debating the whole UNA rematch thing and got really scared in 2011.
