As far as our SAC brethren go, I don't despise Newberry. Probably 3rd if I am ranking SAC schools in order of favorite to least favorite (Carson-Newman is 1st as an alum, and Mars Hill is 2nd as my sister is an alum). Their retiring AD Ralph Patterson is a fantastic man and Coach Knight coaches some good dudes in my experience. With that being said......

I think the Argos are going to beat the Wolves like a rented mule. They are going to punch the Wolves so hard their shoulders will touch. They're gonna kick that arse so bad the Wolves will be tasting grass for the next month.

Coach Shinnick says Newberry likes to run a lot of gadget plays and are good at running them. Will be interesting to see if they work against the Argo D.

While this will be the very first meeting between West Florida and Newberry, the coaches have faced one another 3 times while Coach Shinnink was at UNCP. Coach Shinnick is 2 - 1 against Coach Knight.

If you are unfamiliar with Newberry, they are probably one of the most Jekyll and Hyde teams in D2. You never know what Newberry team you are going to get. When they are on they can beat anybody anywhere. But when they are off, its just ugly. To put in terms our GSC friends will understand. Newberry could go and win at UWF and VSU on the road in back to back weeks....then turn around and lose by 30 at home to Shorter.

I thought I remembered yall playing them yearly for a bit. I like that CN has cjoswn to open with a GSC opponent the past couple years. I think since my freshman year in 2007, the Choctaw and Fighting Okra are the only 2 we haven't played. VSU we always save for a crazy playoff game. I still haven't recovered for the O'NEAL kid and the 60-58 game or whatever the score was.

Cedric O'Neal(one of my favorite players). That was the game where he hurdled a player to get to the end zone. It was like he was running track. What a wild game!!

VSU won 14-9 in 2008.
Newberry won 24-31 in 2009.
VSU won 45-17 in 2010.
VSU won 24-17 in 2011.

I didn't remember them playing in four straight seasons, but that's what's in the books.

The only regular-season game that I recall between VSU and CN was a neutral site game in Rome to honor Nick Hyder. VSU has a 5-3 record against CN.

UWF is 1-1 against C-N.
UWF is 2-0 against Wingate.
UWF is 1-0 against LR.

Speaking of favorite people on the GSC board. I haven't kept up with or seen Delta Dawn post anything in a long time. She made a blanket for our daughter when she was born about 7 years ago, and hilariously now it is our 18 month old son's favorite blanket to take a nap with hahahaha.
