  • Peach Basket Week -- UWG at VSU

Since 2001 the winner of the UWG and VSU game held the honor of looking after the Peach Basket for a year with the promise to take care of the basket and paint the school colors on the band around the basket. This year's game will be bitter sweet. The last rival game between the two schools, and the winner this year will get to keep the basket FOREVER!

    Go, Blazers!

Might as well go ahead and order a Peach Basket trophy case for it's permanent home.
"The Final" won't even be close by 3rd Qtr.

It will rest in Titletown for a Mill-DEAN-I-OM.

I’d imagine VSU would schedule with UWG for non-conference games over the next few seasons so they won’t have to schedule Point and Keiser.

UWG would have to agree to play those games.

Well, scheduling during a transition to D1 can be tough especially for home games. They might have to actually pay VSU a little to come up there but it would draw decent attendance from both schools. Maybe they bypass a payout by scheduling an early season home and home series. Both schools need good non-conference games especially with a rival school. UNA played Jax State several times when the Lions were still in D2. Fans loved it.

Georgia isn't hurting when it comes to D2 football. There's still Albany St., Fort Valley St., Savannah St., Morehouse, Shorter, and Clark if they need an out-of-conference game.

Maybe VSU fans will come. UWG had 1,920 there Saturday for DSU, for what many would call a premier D2 tilt.

They have to agree as well. Albany State plays VSU most years, and Fort Valley will sometimes, but there has only been a few games with Savannah State, and I don't recall any games with Morehouse or Clark. Shorter is leaving the GSC for easier waters. Will they jump back into the deep end willingly?

The above posts sparked my curiosity. Below is the number of games between VSU and the other D2 schools in the state. The numbers include playoff games. The most recent year is denoted in parentheses.

                      Albany State- 23 (2023)
                      Fort Valley- 22 (2018)
                      Shorter- 12 (2023)
                      Savannah State- 6 (2021)
                      Clark Atlanta- 3 (1994)

Each game with Shorter has been a GSC game.

Is the starting QB for West Georgia playing this week? He was injured in the Delta game and didn't return.

Saturday is also Senior Day! Seniors will be recognized and presented with their portraits before the game. (perhaps around 6:30)

Morehouse and Clark would play West every blue moon when an OCC game was needed.
