As to the main topic of this thread... this is 100% a good move. Of the non-football sports that I cover, the only ones without AQs are field hockey and men's and women's lacrosse, and all three suffer from the same problem of certain conferences never getting teams selected. They're also getting field size increases, so teams in the stronger conferences won't really be hurt by this.
