  • Has the GSC fallen off?

For decades the GSC was the big dog in the GSC and a perennial contender nationally . The SAC had an occasional team that was better, but for the most part, top to bottom, the GSC reigned supreme. And once we got out of our region we held our own among the big dogs.

Things seem to be changing in SR2. About ten years ago SAC quit limiting scholarships and slowly but surely they've been coming for that top spot in SR2. Conference stability probably helped the SAC as well. Meanwhile the GSC has been struggling to stay alive (Football wise). So I'm wondering how good is GSC football? Are we still national contenders? Do we deserve the #6 and #10 rankings? The question is, was that 35 - 7 beatdown an anomaly, or is it a sign of things to come?

The bigger concern to me is that the team that beat VSU by 28, lost to the champs by 41. Are we 70 points off from championship level football?

If the GSC playoff teams get knocked out early or mudstomped in the regional final for three consecutive years it would be evidence of a drop off. One year is not a large enough sample size, especially when LR just exploited the weakness (run defense) of the Blazers with a strength (run offense) of the Bears in a rainstorm which also nullified the strength (passing game) of the Blazers.

The team that beat VSU by 28 (Lenoir Rhyne) held us to 2 (TWO) yards rushing for the game and 145 yards of total offense.

Two yards rushing on 18 carries is 4 inches per carry. That’s pretty poor any way you look at it.

Add in a 40% pass completion percentage in that game and yes - we were that bad.

        IMHO
Blazers had a bad day in PO game. Even with a great day in NC game Blazers would have been beaten badly. GAC team could have beaten some D1 teams that day(all season for that matter.)
To your point, GSC just in the number schools left, has, and will, continue to decline unless a miracle happens.
