Being a part of and being properly funded are two different things. I couldn't imagine that those schools were part of the same university system as VSC in the 80's
Institution FY 1985 State Appropriation FY 2025 Total Budget (All Sources)
Albany State University ~$19.2 million ~$155.8 million
Fort Valley State University ~$18.7 million ~$142.5 million

The point I made then, and the point I continue to make is that the size and funding of FVSU and ASU are more appropriately aligned with the GSC than with most of those underfunded institutions in the SIAC. The reason they dominate is that it's men among boys. So they make the playoffs and lose every year, big deal. By joining the GSC they would eventually have a great chance of wining it all, that's all I'm saying. There was a year we won a NC that our only loss was the ASU, imagine what that team could have do if the had our schedule.

I don't get int y'all's politics but I couldn't imagine there would be any blowback if those schools were encouraged to play with their own size. But you're right The general assembly is close, so I have to admit you're right no one is going to touch that issue. But I maintain they would be better for the move.

In terms of the vestiges of the old south and the need to have our cliques, I simply see it as us moving away from race based decisions. It isn't often that we get an opportunity to help out our majority brotheren. Is there any harm in having the descussion?

Yeah, we're going to have the walk softly and leave the stick at home.

I get your reaction Rational. You're right, it's crazy talk but desperate times forces us to look at every possibility, even the crazy ones. I have to admit it 's my GSC pride that prompted that idea, but what do you think about the possibility of joining the SIAC as a football only affiliate. They could mandate that only full members are able to qualify for their championship. So we don't take their spot. Wouldn't that be a Win Win? We don't infringe on their conference bid, they get to improve, by playing some solid teams, and we get a full slate of games.

          Is this idea other worldly?

Lol, that was directed to Canadrican in reference to Carson Newman's new schedule, not the GSC teams. My message to the GSC teams is to don't hold back (bring the stick if you got one), let's see what ya got these days!! 😉

When most of the SIAC already ducks VSU in football, why do you think the SIAC would invite VSU?

Ok but, I didn't mean on the field (you know we're gonna bring the wood), I was making reference to my previous idea of having the state assembly mandate a move (I know crazy idea). I'm saying we're in no position to twist anyone's arm, we're going to have to take whatever alliances or schedule arrangements we're offered.

A loss to VSU is a better resume builder, and besides playing good teams year in, year out is beneficial. Look what it did for the GAC.

It's bassed on the premis that Iron sharpens iron. The SEC isn't just UG, UA and LSU. Every now and then other schools win a conference championship, that's because of the tough games every week. To your point though, not all schools want the smoke, but can you see the benefit?

I dont think we have played Albany State 25 times.

Boy Blue is right. If we (Harding) and other Arkansas GAC schools had never played the North Alabamas and Valdosta States of the GSC we would have never made the program changes to be the competitors we are now. We’re not as strong as we could be if we were scheduling OC opponents, but we’re better than we were.

No loss is better than a win.

Y'all didn't become competitive until you left the GSC and weren't fighting for fourth and fifth place anymore.

                                Typo. It should be 2-3.
