Newberry by 10 over Mars Hill
Barton by 3 over Carson Newman.
      LR over Wise by 14.
Wingate by however many they want over Tusculum.

          I'm shocked about UVA-Wise defeating Lenoir-Rhyne today.

If you were there at Wise they had more than eleven people on the field most every play. Officials were terribly biased in every way. SAC needs to watch the film and have some accountability. The guy with the down marker for line of scrimmage was even cheating and moving the stick between some plays. I know I sound like a sore loser but when you see it right there in front of you during the game its very disturbing.

I have waited for a while to post to let my thoughts settle. Yes the officials were horrible, not just bad, horrible. But they did not cost LR the game in the end. There was a mixture of reasons starting with:
              1. We are seeing the not-so-slow destruction of the LR program by an unfortunate selection of an exceptionally over rated coaching staff. (It really hurts to have come to that decision.)
              2. Wise receivers and secondary players were just as fast if not faster than LR's and they were taller across the board.
              3. LR's running game was better yesterday but what is behind McGee, nothing. And McGee, while very fast is a skat back with no power to back him up and no relief.
              4. And without time to set up, Willingham is not as mobile to buy time which forces some bad QB decisions.
              5. And really saw major cracks in the defensive scheme. Yes we missed #1 Mays (I think is the spelling) at Linebacker very badly.
              6. Which brings us to the last point, remember with Coaches Goldsmith and Houston, next man up, and we did not miss a beat. Not that way any more at SEVERAL positions. Where does that responsibility lie: recruiting and coaching.

Give Wise all the credit in the world. They knew what they had to do and they did it.
Give LR credit for NOT GIVING UP when they could have. Whether that goes to these coaches or the hold over from Cronin's coaching, I am not sure. But give the team credit for it.

Posted with tears in my eyes and a break in my heart!

Bearhof, I agree that the market was not properly placed many times and at other times the "spot" was horrible. But, the chains were being run on our side the Field. Where was our Coaching staff. They did not ever, that I remember, say a word. I understand the impact on this game that the officials may have had, but I am much more concerned with seeing where the present and future of our program is going.

Is it true that the people who carry the down markers in games are local people?

Local people carry the down marker and the chain. Your local guys a cheater and their is film to prove it.

The chain gang is provided by the host institution. Some schools have volunteers that come in to do it but in many cases, the chain crew (like much of the game day event staff) is out of season student athletes. For example, at Catawba, the baseball team runs the chain gang. The chains are on the visiting side of the field and there is always an official standing on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the field so if the person manning the down marker was moving it, the officials should have caught that and put a stop to it.

Chuck, thanks for the clarification. Everybody on our side saw it but the official never adjusted it and our Coaching Staff did not say one word that anyone saw. I do not know of the 3 parties which was sadder.

I thought the officiating was horrendous as well, but I'm not sure its the chain gang's fault as much as the referees. They were the ones who spotted the ball and decided what was a first down and what wasn't. There were definitely a few times they could've brought in the chains and decided not to. They had some extremely questionable decisions apart from this with roughing and PI calls, the SAC should take a good long look at this game.

On the other hand, we need to control what we can control. The team's poor discipline put the refs in the position to make these calls. No team should ever get pulled offsides 4 times in one half, doesn't matter if you are playing Aaron Rodgers or a JV quarterback, it CANNOT happen. Hope the coaching staff got a serious chewing out from admin for the way this game and the Newberry game was handled. I'm very concerned about the Tusculum game this weekend. I was around when Kellar was going 3-7 and the crowd got on his back quickly and did not let up. LR has some of the best fans and most loyal fans in the country, but they do not tolerate a team not playing up to its potential.
