  • Catawba vs Davidson

My son and I coudn't make the LR game because of his 9U game on Saturday afternoon, so we rode down to Davidson and checked out the game with Catawba Saturday night. The new Davidson stadium is nice, much better than everyone sitting on the same side, reminds me somewhat of LR's upgraded stadium after the changes. Davidson and Catawba both had good size crowds, the Davidson side was packed and they have a bank kind of like Wake Forest a lot of people were sitting on, it was a nice game day atmosphere, and they did cool thinkgs with the lights, music, etc. like LR did when we actually had a few night games...

As for the game, Davidson was really athletic and they ran a lot of triple option, had several big runs break. I think they have stepped up the level of talent from games I had seen in the past, they consistently got chunks of yards and broke several long runs. Their running backs were impresive along with their defense and they really looked good against Catawba. Never felt close after the first quarter.

Catawba had a few nice runs and good pass plays but the drives were inconsistent and hit or miss, several 3 and outs and stalled drives. I still think Catawba can and will win several games in the SAC, Davidson would handle most teams this year in the SAC and I think they would give the best teams a fit if not beat them as they should as an FCS program.

I'm sure people more familiar with Catawba's program this year could give a better assesment of what they thought about the game, anyway if anyone lives close and has nothing going on, its worth riding down to Davidson to catch a game, it was only $21 for both our tickets $14 for adult, $7 for youth. LR needs to take some notes on that.
