  • Mars Hill Hurricane Helene Damage

After waiting days to hear from an old friend who lives near Mars Hill, I finally got a message saying that the area is pretty much devastated, no electricity, water, extremely limited cell service and food. To top it off, basically no help coming from FEMA or the government in general. It's like there's no sense of urgency while people have died and are dying.
Sadly, this has become a total embarrassment for our country. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by this hurricane. 🙏🏻

The whole area is in turmoil. I have sent allot of supplies up there, and sending more. There are allot of private helicopters and planes flying in up that way with gear. Very minimal government help. It is sad that the national news and the outside world don't seem to care about the area. My prayers are with those people.

I know, it's baffling! Let something happen like this in some place like Haiti, and our government would be all over it with supplies, doctors and medical equipment, food, water $$$$$ etc.

My son-n-laws family is orginally from the Spruce Pine area. The pictures his family have sent are beyond comprehension. Luckily his family is safe and have escaped total devastation. Just hard to imagine something so bad. It was bad in Anderson but it pales in comparison to what our neighbors in Western NC and Eastern Tennessee are dealing with. My prayers are with them.

That's why they're running so low on money and resources.

Not to mention that we've sent a kabillion dollars to Ukraine. Really upsetting that taking care of our own is not a priority.

More than 5,000 personnel from across the federal workforce are deployed, including more than 1,500 from FEMA. To date, FEMA has shipped over 9.3 million meals, more than 11.2 million liters of water, 150 generators and more than 260,000 tarps to the region.
In North Carolina, more than500 FEMA staff are on the ground in North Carolina, with more arriving daily. over 30Disaster Survivor Assistance staff are on the ground in affected areas to help survivors to apply for FEMA assistance and connect them with additional state, local, federal and voluntary agency resources.

Twenty-six shelters are housing over 1,000 occupants. Mobile feeding operations continue to help survivors in heavily impacted areas, including 3 mass feeding sites in Buncombe, McDowell and Watauga counties.

The North Carolina National Guard has delivered 12 aircraft pallets, totaling more than 100,000lbs of food and over 38,000lbs of water to Asheville.

NOW, please stop with the Right Wing Bull **** and Trump Lies, and if you really care as a human being, write a check and send it to the Red Cross or other actual relief organization. I have family in Avery County and their property and business got completely wiped out. So please, do not tell me I do not know what I am talking about.

Yep, Asheville had gotten some attention, but a lot of the other areas haven't received any attention from FEMA or any other federal agencies. They are still suffering and people are dying. I have friends there who actually know what's going on.

By the way, everything you mentioned is just a drop in the bucket compared to the resources and money spent on catering to the millions that have and are pouring across the border.

Thank you for telling us the facts on the ground. There are some really dumb, obviously politically motivated people on social media who are preying on tragedy right now. Let’s not let ourselves get sucked down the rabbit hole. People are suffering.

                      This we agree on

Glad to see that some of our Military have been deployed to help, be it 8 days after the hurricane.

                      Not political, just facts.

Looks like I feel for one of those false web sites on the response to this terrible flood by FEMA. Thanks for the true facts on the response by FEMA and others.

True fact: Some people are saying the disaster relief has been pretty good in some areas and not so good at all in others. Mostly depends on where you're at.

I was informed that the organization 'Samaritan's Purse' is making a huge difference, especially for those mostly isolated and higher elevation areas. They are working almost nonstop to help those in need.
