You suck for posting this. Just want to let you know that not everything has to be posted before it officially comes out.Originally posted by TheBoningBison View PostHearing rumblings of Simmons stepping to some sort of advisor / analyst role to the team and stepping down from coaching. His son plays linebacker for the Razorbacks. I heard a rumor a couple years ago that he wanted to be able to actually watch his son’s college football career and this might happen. No idea if whats said above is happening or not, but if financially he can swing it…it’s hard to blame him.Originally posted by Tdobson View PostAny idea why?

It’s true, in regards to the offense, Simmons has never been a fan of the offense and has always been jealous of the credit and attention it draws. He tried to can it several years back and he’s using the new HC as an opportunity to make changes. To answer your question, the fact that the brain trust behind that offense is likely gone is going to be a major hit. Any student athlete that has committed to Harding may want to make a few phone calls and see who is still around…rumor is he hired a high school position coach (not even a coordinator) to be the new OC. All this behind the current staffs back.Originally posted by Tdobson View PostThat will be interesting. I wonder what changes he would make? Would he keep that offense, which seems to be so successful?

I’ve heard nothing official. This is pure speculation on my part. If, if fact, Kenny Wheaton, the Godfather of the Harding Flexbone, is retiring, it would make sense for Harding to look for someone to replace him. Is Coach Simmons that guy? I don’t know. In an advisory/analyst role Simmons could help make changes to the offense to open it up with more passing, like Navy’s offense. He could also help a new HC, like Roddy Mote, to continue to make the defense one of the best in D2.
Harding has always had a coach in the advisor/analyst role. It’s a part of their system. Even when I was playing in the NAIA-era at Harding they’d have a coach or former coach help them on game days analyze what the other team was doing and how to make adjustments.Last edited by OldBison; 01-04-2026, 09:27 AM.

I mean… my high school had this too? What Wheaton does vs what code breaker does from the booth is like looking at a Hot wheel and saying it’s like your Z71. What do you mean?Originally posted by OldBison View PostI’ve heard nothing official. This is pure speculation on my part. The exact opposite. His role is infinitely more involved than any other consultant or analyst. What a normal guy does that sits up in a booth to decode the opponents signals is nothing compared to what Kenny does.Originally posted by OldBison View PostLeft sides, I’m not following you. Who is Codebreaker? Are you saying Wheaton is not effective as an he analyst in the booth?
im saying it’s a bad comparison to say that he is similar

Wasn’t comparing them. Just saying Harding has a coaching system that uses an analyst/decoder in the booth on game day. This analyst/decoder position is unique to Harding’s system. I’m not aware of any other D2 teams that have an offensive specialist like Coach Wheaton.Originally posted by LeftSider View Post
