Agreed.

Ferris will still be in the post-season. The question becomes are they the #1 seed or the #2 seed.

Based on what I could quickly find,

Ferris' opponents this season were a combined (excluding the loss vs Ferris and non-D2 games) 50-54, for an opponents winning percentage of 48.1%

Ouachita Baptist's opponents were 55-55 against other opponents (they only play conference games).

Ouachita actually has the advantage over Ferris in the opponents winning percentage category.

The OOWP for OBU is also 50% due to the scheduled conference only games.

The OOWP for the GLIAC schools is more difficult to calculate. I am not going to try figuring it out, but I think the GLIAC's up and down performance against other conferences (overall 11-7 excluding Ferris' games) doesn't due enough to help Ferris jump OBU.


Where things get interesting is with Missouri S&T vs Harding vs Southern Arkansas for the final spot Missouri S&T has the best record of the three schools, but overall the GLVC was very weak outside the conference. Does the 1 loss overcome 2 losses by Harding and 3 losses by S. Arkansas? This question is important because if Missouri S&T does not jump S. Arkansas, then what does the committee do with the S. Arkansas head to head win over Harding?

I do think the S. Arkansas loss drops them behind Harding, which gets Harding in as the #7 seed.



Therefore my prediction for the regional seeds is as follows:

1) OBU

2) Ferris St (this is without dealing with possible nullification).

3) GVSU

4) Indy

5) Ft. Hays St

6) NWMSU

7) Harding


Even if the NCAA invokes the nullification penalty, I don't see Ferris dropping below the #2 seed. They would drop in winning percentage, but would stay ahead of GVSU based on the fact they won head to head. They should also stay ahead of Indy due to the fact they would still have a much higher OWP and OOWP than Indy would. I can't see them dropping behind a 2 loss team even with the nullification penalty.

Ferris and GVSU would most likely be in the second round if it happens. The Fort Hays/Indy winner would play #1 seed OBU (which I'm pretty sure is going to happen based on the numbers).

I am pumped to potentially get NWMS at home, though. That's going to be a blast, win or lose.

We were talking about the possible GV v NW match up yesterday at Warrensburg. Fly into either Midway or Detroit, rent a car and drive the remaining distance. Unless some rich GV alum would send a personal jet to St Joe to pick us up and fly us into Allendale? :wink:
