  • Grifs @ Tigers 2024

An interesting match up this week. How are both of these teams after the games last week. Tigers played an unfamiliar Angelo and Grifs played a rebuilt NE.

Tigers have not beat MW since 2017 when FHSU won the conference going undefeated.

    How are the Grifs??

I think both teams had a lot to fix, and also some positives last week.
Hays D is gonna be really good,.imo.
MW is the big question. Did they try to.sleep walk through NSU, did they just have an off night, or will they continue to look like 10 lbs of fertilizer in a 5 pound sack off and on?

I do not know much about the Tiger's this year, except their veteran QB Jack Dawson is quite good and their defense is likely in at least the top third of the MIAA. These appear to be two key advantages for the Tigers in this matchup as the Griffs are still breaking in a new QB and the defense was suspect at best in week zero in Tahlequah against an improved Riverhawks squad. The Griffs will need their new QB to take a big step in the right direction and the defense to stiffen up a bit to have a chance to to keep the streak going against Hays.

I'm am guessing this one will come down to which team makes the least mistakes, and my sense is that does not favor the Griffs in this one. The upshot is that the Griffs make a significant improvement from week zero to week one and benefit from the confidence that this program has when facing the Tigers from BFE, KS. I chose my Griffs in the pick em', but logic tells me this one matchup should go to the Tigers by at least 3 points.

I chalk up the Griffs barely leaving Tahlequah with the W to breaking in a new QB and NSU's contemporary reputation as a doormat. I think the repeated punches to the mouth by the Riverhawks surprised most, but fortunately the Griffs woke up and made enough adjustments at half-time to put the Riverhawks back down where most people expect them to be.

mw is challenging to figure out this early. they have been up & down in the past both from yr to yr as well as w/in seasons. i am guessing they'll bounce back & this will be a competitive game. i picked them to win in the pickem which was frankly a wild guess.

MWSU will struggle this year. Nw having such a great season is making up for it though.

Congrats to Hays on the win.

Griffs have a lot of work to do. 3 turnovers and 11 penalties tonight. 4 turnovers and 9 penalties last week.

I’ve never seen a niebling crew actually call holding until last night. That’s how blatant it was.

Agreed. Muffed ko return, illegal man down field that negates a big play, running into the kicker. Too many mistakes. Hays is too talented and experienced compared to this MWSU team to translate that to a W but you give yourself a chance. A lot of this is coaching and discipline.

Both teams looked sloppy at times, but I think the Hays D will make them pretty formidable this year.

The lack of a running QB is the biggest difference I see for MW compared to last year's version. That team was hit and miss on D, too.

It’s a history lesson now. Go back to getting your coach fired. Oabaab… unless you stink then get out.
