Cause if they are gathering it from their own games well that's on their opponents for being stupid and lazy.
You really haven’t heard or read about it?

How is it the fault of the team that isn’t cheating/playing dirty?

how is watching someone's signals and figuring them out dirty, we do it in football all the time?

Good point. Clearly it doesn't do ENMU any good in football ;)

In all seriousness though, that is why I asked if you know about it at all. They weren’t doing just that. They were using electronics (cameras, monitors, etc) which is explicitly against the rules. Just regular sign stealing is no big deal, this wasn’t that. This was blatant cheating. There is a big difference.

It's the method. It's like video recording the sideline of an NFL team. It's against the rules.

That's what I was looking for, I thought this was all about them banging the dug out.

Nah. It's about the use of a camera in center field that had a connection to a monitor in a hallway behind the dugout. It's a big deal for a number of reasons:

              - Signs are typically only an issue with a man on second base. The use of the CF camera essentially puts those eyes on second at all times.
              - A runner at 2B has to worry about getting picked off.
              - A runner at 2B has to relay the signs to a hitter with some sort of physical movement, which would require the eye contact of the batter. With the trash can method, the runner is not distracted and the batter can maintain focus on the P.
              - The choices are binary.
              - Can't hit batters like you used to for this type of thing.

I personally believe it's widespread. All of the sudden people can hit 100+.

Not so much. I was referring to myself or actually anyone who might believe their favorite pro team is squeaky clean. I do agree that the Astros or whoever needs to be exposed when they are caught with their proverbial hand in the cookie jar. Lets face facts. The Oklahoma Sooners of the world violate just about any or all NCAA rules repeatedly and have done much worse than SMU and yet they still compete and win. Man, tbh I wish I was more naive at least then I could live in that bubble and deny everything as slander and haters. Wait, I just described the Democrats.

The biggest things that need to be exposed, as this was, are the things that compromise not only the integrity of the game, but potentially people’s careers. However I’m not gonna feel sorry for any pro athletes, most are living their dream.

Rule bending happens nearly everywhere in every line of work. But my least favorite reason as to why is “because everyone else is doing it.” That drives me crazy and is typically a way to try to justify your own team’s wrongdoing. Reminds me of elementary school :)

Not saying I condone it. Not trying to justify either. Just accepting the fact that it’s not an isolated event.

Years ago I thought to myself when Clinton was President if every person ever becomes like our politicians this country is in real trouble. Fast forward to today and I think the regular people have closed the gap on our politicians. Sad but reality.

I didn’t think you did, was quoting you only to keep the conversation going. That’s the hard thing about message boards! Haha

The worse part about everyone acting that way is no accountability. If someone calls someone out for their lack of accountability, they are labeled a ‘hater’. It’s ridiculous.

Agreed. If a runner sees the catcher’s signs and can relay them to the batter, that’s on the catcher for not concealing the signs well enough. When I played (20-plus years ago) that was considered fair game as long as you didn’t get caught or picked off while doing it. It was about the people on the field, not someone with a camera in the center field seats. That being said, I sucked at trying to catch signs and didn’t do it.

What the Astros (and maybe the Red Sox?) were doing goes beyond that. It’s no longer about the people on the field, it becomes more about the cameras and the off-field people, and that’s not good for the game. It makes me think the catcher and pitcher should have some communication system like the coaches and QB’s have in the NFL. Of course, you get rid of the finger signs...but enter the lip readers?
