A few years ago Denton Ryan cried huge tears to the UIL to wait two days to play Tascosa on a Monday when the temp was going to be above 50 then threw a huge fit to have the game at noon instead of 6pm so they could travel back that day (cough cough - the other motive was so Amarillo didnt have a chance to fill the stands for a home field advantage). They compromised and they had the game at 3pm.

Tascosa Played Haltom in Lubbock two years ago in the quarterfinals. Those kids from Ft. Worth wanted nothing to do with the cold and it was above freezing then with a little bit of snow.

Can't remember the year but Pampa played Grapevine at kimbrough stadium in the state semifinals. The grapevine kids were griping to the paper that they shouldnt have to play a game in the arctic circle. :D
DFW area high school fans are some of the most entitled brats in the state. You should see the back and forth on some of the message boards about having the state title games being rotated between DFW, Houston and San Antonio. The peeps in other parts of the state have no problem with it being rotated. But the DFW area peeps come in and say we have THE showcase stadium in the state, the kids want to play here, and besides we get more teams in our immediate area in the state title games so therefore in belongs here. Tell me how it's fair Aledo gets to travel only a few miles away year and year out right now or Highland Park and a Houston or San Antonio area team has to pack up and overnight to play them. Make those pretty boys and society girls from Highland Park travel south of Waco for once in their lives for crying out loud for something other than a trip to the beach. But the UIL listens to the demands and political pull of the DFW area superintendents and school boards over any other part of the state. It shows during realignment when they do stupid stuff like stick San Angelo in a DFW area district and they've done and attempted to the same crap down here.

Yeah I agree 110%. Those 6A DFW region 1 schools on average only have to leave the metroplex once a year for a playoff game they lose a coin flip on or agree to travel 90 miles to either Wichita Falls or Abilene to play a West Texas school in the regional round of the playoffs. If you get most of them out of the mteroplex for a game they usually get beat because they arent used to the travel or cooler conditions. Meanwhile Tascosa High in Amarillo 2 years ago travelled twice to Midland, once to Abilene, once to El Paso, and once to San Antonio to play a valley school.

San Angelo was a silly move moving them to the Dallas districts. They moved them back to the Odessa district this year. Abilene Cooper moved to the Ft. Worth district but that makes more sense than travelling to Lubbock and Amarillo for their old district games.

Tascosa got moved down to 5A this year so the district travel will just be limited to Lubbock a couple of games. That being said they still are playing all the 6A teams from the MIdland/Odessa/San Angelo Central non-district this year.

Looks like the high schools may slowly follow the college football lead.

That's one 2A school in the middle of nowhere. Gonna take a lot more than that to effect the big boys

Well I remember a convo taking place a few weeks ago about only D2 and D3 shutting down for the fall while FBS moves full steam ahead. ;)

Why was there a ban on live broadcasts?

Its a Texas thing Brandon. The whole "Friday Night Lights" experience. They believed live broadcasts would result in lower attendance so they mandated a one hour delay for broadcasts.

The ban is only on Friday nights during the normal times. I think the UIL and school districts see the live broadcasts as a drain on their bottom lines along with discouraging fans from taking road trips to support their teams when they play on the road. And in some regards, it's accurate because you see this come playoff time when live broadcasts are allowed. But why they allow it then and not during the regular season seems to be a contradiction because the schools could really use that ticket revenue to off set the costs for using neutral sites during playoffs. Also, game day/night is a fund raising opportunity for other organizations and clubs to generate funds for their cause, so they will operate the concession stands, have separate specialty food booths, etc and that is lost chances at revenue if people stay at home. So there is a valid reason why this is policy during "normal" times. To some extent, it's the same we see in FCS football and D2 football thanks to streaming either being free or for a small fee for per game or a season pass.

It's a little more complicated than what was posted in this article albeit they do touch on it with the UIL district certs date. From what I've seen locally in different forums, the school district's bulk of athletic and academic activities were to occur in the RGV to the south of them which is at current a nationwide hot spot for Covid. Most of the schools in their UIL district are either closed or prohibited from engaging in activities until late September or early October.

Honestly I think they and a few other schools are jumping the gun on things like this. The Texas Coaches Association released a survey of Covid infections during the summer training before two a days started. Out of 314 school districts sent the survey with 244 reporting results to the survey , 278 athletes out 65,290 athletes tested positive with 4 of those cases being traced to camp. Only four need to be admitted to the hospital. Zero deaths and positive rate of .00425

Well, all that makes sense until you factor in going live on Instagram and Facebook. I watched a full game last season for free on my big screen. Facebook Live, 6 students majoring in A/V had much better coverage than 90% of the online options. It's easy to watch. iPad & Airplay to your TV. FREE!!
