DIdn't find where that game ever happened but WT did win the Junior Rose Bowl in 1967 beating Cal St. Northridge and beating Oklahoma State in 1980.

I'm not sure how they named it "Midwestern" anyway. I wouldn't consider any part of Texas to be Midwest, except for perhaps the top half of the panhandle.
Their location is Midwestern Texas. Really should be North Midwestern. Just like it should be Northwest Texas A&M.

Not really. Southwest Texas State was always mispositioned from the get go as it is very much in Central Texas or what is considered the bottom half of Central Texas. The southwest part of of Texas is Del Rio down to Eagle Pass.

I could see why there wasn't a loud cry when the name of the school was changed to Texas State unlike some of us in the aggy system that had it forced on us. And the name change actually helped the school form a new identity. Used to be the big party school and made the Playboy top party schools all during the 70's up to the 90's along with taking the UT drops and rejects who wanted to be close to Austin for it's appeal back in the day. It's shed some of that and the town is has really adapted to being a college town that some feel Austin is now lacking thanks to it being one the largest cities in the US and the skyline and vibe of Downtown totally changing too.

My daughter will be starting school up there in a few weeks and I'm really impressed with the changes compared to what it was back in the day. Heck my wife and I even added the San Marcos area to our list of where we might want to move to in a couple of years. It has a ton of pros being close to Austin and San Antonio and a major airport with Austin Bergstrom with direct flights to Europe and Latin America along the Hill Country vibe, plenty of shopping options and great places to eat all around that area.

There are a LOT of great small towns in Texas with a university that I could retire to. Belton, Canyon, Georgetown, and Sherman would be at the top of my list. I might pick Canyon due to the altitude and cooler weather.

That whole I-35 corridor is pretty much metroplex south. I would want to be at least 30 miles east-west from I-35 but thats my personal preference.

Even Lockhart when I lived there in 2017 has drastically changed when I drove through there a few months ago.

I will get massacred for this but if my parents pass before I retire I am looking strongly at Tennessee for retirement places.

It wont be too much longer (closing in on it now) before Texas becomes overpopulated and succumbs to imposing a state tax to offset the ridiculous property taxes.

Also I enjoy having my power stay on even when its barely raining.

That being said my girlfriend's best friend lives in Belton and wouldnt mind settling there but like you I want away from heat and humidity,

Wimberley and Blanco are kind of at the top of the list right now. My wife likes Wimberley because it's close (25 mins) enough to San Marcos for the shopping choices. I like it because it's still feels like its out in the sticks somewhat because a major highway doesn't come close to the area for several miles. If I get this job I put in for, I will need to be close to a major airport because I'd have to fly to Chicago once in awhile and to several destinations in Oklahoma and Texas and occasionally New Mexico. Being closer to ABIA vs San Antonio International would be more ideal too because ABIA is essentially the third largest Airport in Texas and has direct flights to most of the major cities in those three states. My wife could either work from home or even retire if she chose too.

Lockhart is booming because of Elon Musk and his mega complex on the Toll Road near ABIA and the Hollywood studios moving into Bastrop.

Agreed. Georgetown is becoming like The Villages in Florida with the retirement communities. I guess since by wife is now 55 we can qualify. I'm almost there, but not quite.

As much as I love the hill country I dont think I could live much further west from Austin.

Cedar Fever in the winter and oak pollen kicked my arse big time.

I will probably be the opposite.

Most old timers flock south to be warmer.

I will probably be looking a little more temperate.

No thanks. If I want to look at nothing I might as well retire back home to the panhandle where its slightly cooler and less dust storms.

It was. It us 140 SE of Brady which is the most central city in Texas.

I mean maybe you can call it south central?
