Seriously, two years ago HALF the men's hoop team was out and they never mentioned it until the season was over. I thought grades and criminality first (well, one might have been criminality), coach on a hot seat, no indication anyone was injured, just this mystery why 4 of 5 starters weren't playing. So yeah, they want the fans to NOT pay attention, buy the tickets, buy the gear, shut up, ignore everything ... and actually, travel to OSU games since we don't care.

Regarding this week, WOU QB2 is very good, so there's that. Usually not the case in Monmouth. I guess if QB1, QB2, and QB3 all broke their legs, it should be a complete mystery and fans should be in the dark.
I think it was better back in the days when there were actual reporters covering the smaller teams that would ask about injured players when interviewing coaches after games. That doesn't happen so much anymore.

Agree, and no one looked at it as a bad thing, just that a player was injured and it was good information for the fans, who like to be informed.

I think fans can be categorized into:
      1. Fans who don't know about the sport and just want something to do.
      2. Fans who cheer for their school no matter what, but don't care about the intricacies of the game/roster/coaching.
      3. Fans who want to know in-depth about teams/coaches/roster/school culture.

I'm obviously at No. 3 but I'd guess there are more in the first two categories, and nothing wrong with that.

I've even had incidences here where I'll only hear about an injury from a forum user who has an in with the program and they'll message me, sometimes in confidence.

Unfortunately I have seen this a lot, especially at lower levels. There isn't a real incentive for athletic departments to communicate these issues to the public, so they don't. Some athletics departments may not have the staff for it as well. You even see it with some smaller D1 schools too. I posted it in another thread last week - my alma mater's athletic department has gone from being extremely active with communication to doing barely the minimum after making the move to D1...I think it should be the opposite! As you mentioned, there may be privacy concerns and possible issues with sharing of student information (as a teacher, I'm told to be really careful with what I share and to who I share it with), but I can't tell you if that relates to sports injuries since I teach at a college that doesn't have athletics.
You certainly can call the HC and ask. I believe many will gladly speak with you. Have you tried?

It is strange that we sort of expect the medical privacy rights of athletes to be ignored.

Pitt will announce who is hurt, but only if they are not playing that day and only on the radio right before kickoff.

I think some peeps may confused the rules of the NCAA with the NFL where you do have to disclose injured players in the NFL.

Good idea. Do you have Shanahan's number? I want find out what's really going on with Purdy. Also I want to call Jerry and thank him for trading Parsons.

Maybe it's Big Paycheck Syndrome. Look at what happened to Prescott, Rodgers, Aiyuk, and many others once the mega bucks started rolling in.

That's all I'm asking, if people aren't playing that day. Not sure how people survived the world back when they announced injuries, no lawsuits, no one arrested, no one fired. Just a simple announcement ... then again, there's a lot of the 21st century I don't understand. Guessing the WOU QB wouldn't feel "violated" if it was reported he has a hurt wrist, but maybe that's just me.

Technically, a roster is in violation of HIPPA. How dare we put age, class, height and weight and hand it out to the public.

Hellen Keller could have sensed that giving the big contract to Dak Prescott was going to cripple that franchise.

                      No, I don't.

                      Actually, yes, I do.

And, I agree with you 100%. I disagree with how all professional athletes are paid. Same as I do lousy lawyers and crappy CPA's.

                        Agreed!

The NCAA doesn't have standardized injury reports because of student-athlete privacy, potential impacts on student well-being, and the legal complexities of HIPAA and state laws governing health information disclosure. However, because of the $$$ now involved, including legalized betting, many are screaming for injury reports. Conferences like the Big Ten and SEC are beginning to implement their own mandatory injury reports to address these concerns.

                        Here is rhe SEC's.....

The entire reason the big leagues do it is to prevent insider betting. If everyone has the information, it just eliminates that problem. To my knowledge, the NFL started this in the 40's because of betting scandals, then everyone jumped on.

Unless someone starts betting on Lone Star Conference football, there really isn't a need.

Which one of you degens is betting on LSC football?

Not betting, just curious like most normal fans, if our starting QB is playing this week or at all the rest of the season. I'm not sure, the HIPPA police will arrest me if I ask again. I'm off to get my orange slices.
