I get a feel like the UJ thing is more likely to happen than not. But they'd need a 75% "yes" vote from the existing members to get in the league. If you're UJ..I think you'd wanna know roughly where you are at now with regard to that..unsure how exactly you'd get those answers tho.
I've seen conflicting reports now, is it a 2/3, or 3/4 vote that gets them in? I'll have to do some digging

If this doesn't happen, then like I've said for years.

The major school break off (already happening)

What's left of d1 and some fcs form new division

What's left of fcs and top d2 form a new division

      Etc.

        Yeah, totally agree.

In practice, there really are 3 D1 Subdivisions - the P4, the rest of FBS, and the FCS. It's too clunky.

        • These rumors of the MIAA expressing interest in Wayne State College doesn't seem to make any sense to me. An average football road trip for WSC in the NSIC is about 334 miles (which rises slightly to 341 miles when you add Crookston and St Cloud State), while an average trip in the MIAA is about 349 miles (adding in MIAA non-football schools Newman, Rogers State and future member Arkansas-Fort Smith, it's an average trip of 372 miles). Unless the MIAA is strongly committed to retaining their silo schedule scheme to bring them back to 12 schools following the departure of Lincoln-MO, I'd be curious as to what WSC would bring to the MIAA other than an even number of teams.

From the NSIC Constitution and Bylaws:

            1.4.3 Voting Procedures.
1.4.3.1 Votes taken for the purpose of adding or reinstating member institutions shall require a two-thirds affirmative vote of the Board of Directors.
1.4.3.2 The date for implementation for such action shall be determined by the Board of Directors.

It's gonna be wild when Minnesota and NDSU are in the same conference haha! Bound to happen though

Thanks! Saved me some time looking it up at work.

2/3 vote I think it becomes apparent that they are getting the invite most likely unanimously to not ruffle feathers. If it were a minimum of 12 votes I can see schools standing their ground.

Would be the death of academic standards in conference affiliation. That would be terrible.

But anything is possible these days.

2/3's is interesting as I just spoke to someone within the league and they mentioned 3/4's..but maybe they had their %'s off.

I'm not sure what's happening right now at D1 has anything to do with NSIC decision-making for another member..but instead I think a lot of that is kinda noise from another level. Right now things are kinda one year at a time as UIU proved.

Zimmy..we know you want the Mavs to just go D1 and not have to be bothered by all these smaller school situations in the NSIC..haha!

Nothing against most member schools in the NSIC, Crookston and St. Cloud can pound sand. The rest of them I have nothing against. I just don't want to see MSU isolated again, this time it's more relevant to the St. Thomas side of things than when the NCC collapsed. Having anywhere from double, triple, quadruple and even larger the enrollment sizes than most of the schools in the conference it quickly feels like the conference may be looking at things differently than a large school would.

I will say, I have heard nothing locally here of any interest by Wayne in the MIAA or the other way around (not that I would be privy to those discussions anyway), but it certainly hasn't come up in any conversation locally.

With that said, I would prefer the NSIC between the two leagues. Wayne is a better fit in that league and would have a better competitive advantage.

WSC does have a history with some of those MIAA schools however.....in the late 70s and most of the 80s, WSC was a member of the Central States Intercollegiate Conference with Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Missouri Southern, Missouri Western, Nebraska-Kearney, Pittsburg State and Washburn.
