Getting closer to kickoff against Saginaw Valley State on Thursday September 5. I think the opener will be a challenge. Last year, Saginaw Valley State showed some elite size and athleticism.

Winona has 8 assistant coaches, 5 are new
    1). OL and OC
    2). QB & RB Coach
    3). DL coach
    4). TE/FB Coach
    5). S coach.

Coach Cross moves from RB to CB coach. Cross played db while at Western Illinois

There isn't a ton of intel on the team yet, but based on leadership council and captains listed on Twitter, we can probably deduce a few key positions and starters. We should know more next Wednesday during Warriors Watch luncheon.

Looking forward to the season. Lots of question marks for the team. Hoping they can out perform the preseason expectations.

Got whipped at home in our first game 14-38. Saginaw just kinda took their foot off the gas a bit in 2nd half. It’s only one game, I think we bounce back.

I watched much of 2nd half and thought Sr. Qb. Cole Stenstrom didn't look as sharp as in other games. What's your opinion?

Well last year he was 9 out of 13 QBs in the NSIC QB efficiency rating. Of course when things don't go well it's just not just the QB. I'm thinking in his second year, he will be better. At times tonight, he was better than last year, but also made some really poor decisions. New OC, new system, super tough athletic defense tonight, I suspect the coaches still think he is the best option. He has to play better for Winona to have any success.

              WSU Warriors 31- CSP 14
This game wasn't nearly as lopsided as the final score indicated. CSP lead early 7-0. Later, the game was tied late in 1rst have 14-14. Warriors led at the half 17-14. The Warriors defense held up better in the second half holding CSP scoreless.

Either CSP has a great running game, the Warriors need some work at stopping the run, or a little of both. CSP opened the game and absolutely gashed the Warriors run defense. It was one of the games that I almost felt like, if they ran it 4 times in a row and never passed, they would keep moving down the chains. Fortunately, CSP passing attack needs some work. I felt like for them they should have just kept running it regardless and forget about passing.

For the Warriors, QB Cole Stentrom looked good, 21-27 passing, protected the ball and made good decisions. Sylvere Campbell another 100 yard game and was an absolute beast. The RBs were good as well. Cair'ron Hendred broke 100 yards for a 6.6 average. The win was encouraging, but there is still alot of work to be done.

Big game this week as Wayne State is coming to down. I think it will be an uphill battle. I hope to see us play well in all phases of the game. Wayne will be a measuring stick IMHO about what to expect for the rest of the season. CSP lost 7 - 33 to Upper Iowa. So we shouldn't get any false senses here. The season is a journey and we need improvements and a focused week of practice to compete this coming Saturday.

In a game, I thought we might lose, WSU dominated Moorehead 33-6. WSU had an excellent strategy and excellent defense against a pass heavy team. They controlled the ground game. Winona switched to a a more run oriented QB Flottmeyer and they responded. Downside was another blocked FG attempt. For the season, 4 out of 8 FG attempts this year have been blocked. This has to get cleaned up. Punting, pass defense, running game have been excellent. The OL really has improved since the beginning of the year and looking good. Excellent improvement.

I felt like Winona has been close, but just couldn't put it all together in a game. Still alot to play for, need to just keep getting better every week. 1-0

Nice Win yesterday. Offensive line was able dominate and allow the running game to get working. Flottmeyer did what was asked of him. He's a good athlete. Going to need to open up the passing game more, but for a RS Freshman making his first start, the kid looked solid.

Also, a noticeable difference in the defense this week. Here's hoping it carries over!

I can't find anything on Google so hopefully someone here has some knowledge on the matter. Years ago I remember hearing and seeing renderings of potential updates to the football stadium that included a field house. Has that been tabled for now or good? I know they can't do much until they get a new baseball field but am curios if still plan on doing anything with it.

I asked around on this over the weekend. I could not find anyone who knew anything. My guess is no news is not good news.

Last home game completed. Another season nears the end. Unfortunately, there will be no playoffs for WSU.

Lost to Wayne State by 7 28-21, was tied 21-21 late. Gave up a long TD pass late in 4th.
Lost to Northern state by 6, we came back and took a 21-17 lead in the second half, then let Northern have 2 long touch down drives in the 4th Q
Lost to Duluth by 4 - Had the lead with 3:50 to go, Duluth marched straight down the field with TD for the winner

I don't think we were that far off this year. The first game against Saginaw Valley State and Augie were the 2 bad outings. Other than that we were close, just couldn't quite put it all together this year.

We have 2 "winnable" road games left.
                        Southwest Minnesota State next week
                        Minot

Minot will still be a challenge going up there for the last game of the year. It will be a long ride and probably cold and miserable LOL.

If we win both games, we finish at 6-5, kinda mid pack. I think it's important to win these games to build some momentum for next year.

Wonder what happened. Seems like back in 2018 and 2019 they were sharing plans and sounded like it was a done deal. Haven't heard of anything since. I have friends who work in the academic side of WSU and all were against it because it would only benefit a small number of students.
They need to figure out something soon, every year it feels more and more cramped on game day.

I have no idea on the WSU side of this, but I’m certain it’s money and the changing landscape of college. I have heard, from many places, that things are weird and even a little scary for the colleges. It’s going to take a ton of local funding (maybe all of it?) to make it happen. I don’t think the state or the state colleges have the $ or the wherewithal to get it done (WSU, BSU, MSUMo, USMa group)

the next 5-10 years will be very interesting, both on the academic and athletic sides of things. The old days of “you have to go to a 4 year college” idea seems to have shifted, greatly.

Last game is against Minot at their place. They have had 2 weeks to prepare. I expect they will be ready. Looking over the Minot schedule they came out on top versus Sioux Falls and Northern. Both very good clubs. Of course the key to the game will be stopping their potent option attack. The conditions I think will favor running, but still time for things to change weather wise. I suspect a low scoring game with them keeping the clock moving for a fast game. The key will be to stop them early and get ahead.

Winona sits at 5-5, a loss gives us back to back 5-6 losing seasons. This is not good enough. A win and a winning season at 6-5. A very slight improvement over last year. . I'll probably crazy enough go up their to the game and sit in the cold.

                              GO WARRIORS!

Just saw this posted online. Coach Bergstrom has resigned as head coach at Winona State.
