There is a rumor the AU is getting a new coordinator. I heard one of them is going to Drake University to take the same position.

Also heard Augie has a spring scrimmage scheduled with an opponent from a lower division. The Vikings will travel there. They have an indoor facility so weather won't be an issue.

So a coach might be leave for Drake U? A non-scholarship Pioneer conference D1 team. A few years back they lost to a NAIA team. Seems like a step down.

Saw on twitter, DC Mark Sipple has taken the same position at Drake University. He did an excellent job for AU, with longtime ties to WI. he recruited that State well.

If Sipple is looking to move up the coaching ladder, moving up to the FCS level makes sense even if you think the quality of the football program might be worse. Because any sort of improvement, he's probably getting job offers from upper echelon FCS schools. It's a step that has to happen, because I don't think a DC job offer from say NDSU would come if he was still at Augie. He could go from Augie to maybe a position coach at a good MVFC, but not a coordinator position.

It won't happen, but I would love to see Drake (a basketball and track school) move from the Pioneer to the MVFC. Even better if the would join the Summit along with UNI. But that is a pipe dream.

The MVC to Summit move is surely a pipe dream, but I think a move to the MVFC would be intriguing. Obviously it would take a financial commitment, but it seems like athletics are on somewhat of an upswing there.

Running back coach Myles Taylor also went to Drake. I believe he's the assistant d-line coach there.

Looks like Sipple and the new Drake coach both had deep Division III roots from around the same era.

Augie is not going D1 anytime soon. Their budget is to tight. Without a big donor they aren't going anywhere. Still don't have an indoor facility and budget cuts are real with the football team. Hockey team takes all the extra money.
