How many yards did Rocket Ismail have the year he placed 2nd to Ty Detmer in the Heisman voting?

The number is probably the same as the 50 lbs bags of dog food you stack in a year at PETS MART.

Actually, a lot less. The Rocket only gained 1000 combined running and receiving yards in 1989, and then 1200 yards in 1990, which was the year he placed 2nd in Heisman voting.

Mines has scored a lot of points. That's what the Nerds do. CSUP has scored as many points as it does against opponents like these.

The team that plays sound, disciplined defense will have the edge in this game. Neither offense can afford to make mistakes. This will be the first game Mines has played against a team that has a run defense like no other in the conference. However, CSUP gives up a lot of yards in the air. Mines will take full advantage of that.

Overall, CSUP has faster, more athletic players. Advantage pups.

Did you watch the game? Over half of Mayberry's yards came off runs of 58 and 70 yards. If you take away the 2 runs he had 75 yards on 32 carries or 2.3 yards per carry. With the 2 long runs he was 34 carries for 203 yards and 6 yards per carry.

If you take away 15 points then Pueblo wins too but you can't just do that. It doesn't matter, the defense got gashed on those big plays and the offense was ineffective at putting points on the board.

I agree that CSUP has a talented team this year. Similar to the one that won the natty. But remember, as talented as CSUP was in 2014, it lost to a relatively mediocre Fort Lewis team that did what Mines on Saturday. So what's the problem?

After last year disappointing playoff performance, Wristen said he had to make some changes. Not sure what changes he made on the field. The team has played an awful lot this year like it has the past couple years. Wristen didn't change his philosophy about winning with a strong defense; most of us agree with that. He didn't change his philosophy about fielding a on offense that merely manages the ball; I disagree with. Here's why. The Pack is inevitably going to get involved in shoot-out games where the offense has to outscore its opponent. The problem. An offense that merely manages the ball cannot win in those situations; its not prepared to do so. CSUP needs to field an offense that puts a boatload of points on the board. An offense that plays to win. Not an offense that plays not to lose. There is a big difference between the two. Does Wristen know the difference?

Re: CSU Pueblo vs. Colorado Mines

Just re-watched the entire game and CSU Pueblo deserved to lose this game. The Thunderwolves essentially set the table for the Nerds from the start by trying to go for it on 4th down in their own territory. Mines is a very well conditioned and extremely disciplined team and took advantage of every opportunity the Thunderwolves gave them.

Do I think CSU Pueblo got blown out? No way! They just didn't prepare themselves for simple things like protecting the ball, running through plays and the coaches inability to change their game plan when needed. I absolutely hate the shotgun with the QBs CSU Pueblo has right now.

Also, on both of those long running plays Mines had CSU Pueblo completely spreadout and ready for the pass. The CSU Pueblo D-lined didn't watch the runner, they followed the Mines O-line one way and Mayberry simply ran in the opposite direction untouched. In both plays Brandon Payer was not playing second layer. He was rushing the passer.

CSU Pueblo went into the game expecting the Mines team that throws the ball 80% of the time, but instead Mines coaches used CSU Pueblo's game strategy to trick/outsmart them on numerous occasions.

Hats off to Mines. I will cheer for them if they win the conference and go onto the playoffs. I personally do not see Mesa beating them.

This game will haunt CSU Pueblo, but I have a feeling that Chadron or Mesa will beat Mines.
