St. Cloud State gets a 3 seed and Bemidji State gets a 6 seed. They will meet for the third time this year in the first round at Emporia State.

Mankato got a 4 seed and will play 5 seed Central Missouri at Washburn.

Didn't even consider Emporia hosting as a possibility a few weeks ago, but two wins over Washburn and a 3-2 victory over UCM in the conference championship (great game) is a strong finish.

Seems pretty wide open, especially with Central, Mankato, Washburn all lined up on one side together. Lots of teams with reasons to be optimistic.

Bemidji State fell to Emporia 2-1 on Sunday. Nice end of the season run by the Beavers!

Good weekend of soccer in Kansas. Fort Hays and Ouachita both gave the hosts good games in the first round. I caught the second half of the NSIC game here in Emporia, was impressed with the skill level of SCSU, but Bemidji is really solid defensively. I thought ESU played really well against Bemidji, especially considering injury has left us a little short on depth.

Only caught the end of extra time for Washburn-UCM, shame about the assistant referee forgetting the offside rule. The goalkeeper is ahead of the backline, so the goalscorer is not even remotely close to being onside - I think she's even still behind the last defender. Nice finish anyway, and a crazy comeback for Washburn. Good showing from MIAA in general, I thought all 4 top teams looked pretty solid by the end of the season.

Too bad. This ends the NSIC soccer season. I was hoping someone would go further.

Emporia's head coach will not be with the team in Ohio this weekend. From the Emporia game notes:

As a result of violations to policies and the student code of conduct outlined in the Emporia State Athletics Student-Athlete Handbook, members of the ESU Women's Soccer team will face sanctions in the form of limited playing time in the upcoming NCAA post-season tournament.

In addition, Coach Bryan Sailer is on paid administrative leave and will not be joining the team on the trip.
