Kelly Mazzante territory. I think I once read that she actually averaged 37 points ppg in high school.

I was doing some interesting reading the other night on Pistol Pete Maravich. He averaged like 44 points a game in college at LSU. And that was before the advent of the three-point line and the shot clock. Someone did a study of his films and figured out that had he had the benefit of the trey line that he would have scored 57 a game. That's just plain crazy there.

Also interesting that his father, Press Maravich, coached at Aliquippa and Baldwin high schools and West Virginia Wesleyan before coaching the Pistol at LSU.

Pistol Pete of course sadly passed away in January of 1988 at the age of 40 while playing in a pick-up basketball game. He was before my time, but he had to be one of the truly great ball players of all-time.

My favorite Pistol Pete story was that as a student he was banned from the free-throw shooting games on the boardwalk of whatever beach he used to go to--you know, the ones that look normal but are actually sort of ovoid--because he was so accurate he could take all of the biggest prizes and they were losing money.

What happened to her? Is she still with the program? I know she played early in the season and then seemed to vanish.

I think D'Anna will be a beast in the paint when she gets unleashed next season now that Megan Smith is gone. I never did figure out if D'Anna is her first or last name though?

        Starting five could look like:

        F-D'Anna
        F- Robinson
        G/F- Lovelace
        G- Wolosik
        PG- Applebee

So, no, I wasn't counting them. They signed (5) incoming true freshmen.
Sweet. Are they keeping the names secret or am I just not looking in the right places?

Last name. First name: Maura. My next favorite player after Denman this year. D'Anna walked past me on campus a few days ago--she is an impressive physical presence, broad-shouldered and powerful. I know sometimes the girls don't like to be described as "big" or whatever, but I mean it in the best way possible that she stands out in the crowd, and I'm a big dude. If I was running next at the playground and she showed up, I'd grab her for my five. She was smiling, but there's something about her that hints she wouldn't back down from anything.

Sounds like my elementary-aged power forward niece. Too bad she ate herself right out of the starting line up this past season.

I'm not sure if the IUP WBB program has had a post with that brute and primal power since the days of Sarah Zdesar. She was just plain tough. I think in her last appearance at MFH in a playoff game she scored something like 34 points and grabbed 20 rebounds.

I'd love to see D'Anna get a lot of minutes. That kind of size and punishment has a way of breaking the other teams will after awhile.

They announced the class back in the fall right after the early signing period.

Tom doesn't keep his recruits at Fort Knox level security unlike Bravado Joe.

They put a link on the web site. If you can't find that go to the Twitter page and scroll back to OCT-NOV.

Re: IUP & Related PSAC WBB

Though I was around when HAMER was brand new and MBB was the only game in town, I came back for real when DR ARMENTI hired DARCIE VINCENT away from SRU and was hooked after watching my VULCANS WBB take down a very good DRURY team on national television. At the time MBB was in a slow decline from losing in the national semis in '92 and really wasn't worth the angst of following that scene.
WBB had their own issues with 3 coaches in 4 years but the solidifying factor through it all was JESS STROM. When she took over in 11-12 as INTERIM HC things began to stabilize and she was able to hold on to 2 freshman, IRINA KUKOLJ and EMMA MAHADY, who would play absolutely critical roles in the '15 NC. To say that the program has been the model of a successful D2 program since would be a gross understatement. As you say, last year's team wasn't where it should have been though I can't imagine many schools that would look at a 24-7 record as a down year.
Which brings us to the 18-19 season. Due to the rash of injuries every player on the team averaged close to 1 qtr per game so this is an extremely veteran team. If (and I use that word guardedly) SEAIRRA BARRETT returns, I see the starting 5 being BARRETT, SPORIO, CUSHON, HAHN and either FLOOD-FRANCIS or JASPER. But COACH STROM and her staff have once again rounded up a very impressive collection of first year players some of whom could get significant minutes and/or end up starting. Early signees SHAUNA HARRISON 5'11" SG Sheffield, England and KHANIFAH PANNELL 5'11" SF Carver HS, Philadelphia have recently been joined by 1st team All State BRIONA ALLEN 5'7" SG Bishop Canevin Pgh, 1st team All State Lauren Bennett 5'7" SG/PG Buckhannon (WV) HS and 1st team All State LILLY RITZ 6'2" PF/C Cambridge (Ohio)HS. The season is a long way off, but yes this CALU fan will be around to talk WBB.

Storck for three!!! I remember watching that game like it was yesterday. Hard to believe that it was 14 years ago.

My personal opinion is that there are NO PSAC WBB teams in the years that unfolded since that could run with the '03 & '04 Lady Vulcans. They were that good!

Seton Hill snagged Blairsville guard Rena Enterline. She averaged 20 ppg as a senior.

Was it Seton Hill or was it Rock? I thought I heard conflicting things on that awhile back.

Penns Manor rising senior Autumn Fennell really deserves a look from some PSAC schools. Not real big, but she is dynamite to say the least. All she did was lead her team to the state semifinals last March.

Tom's roster posted (minus the [5] incoming freshmen).

No real surprises. As expected Kerr and Alexander officially took redshirts last year and will both be R-Sophomores this season.

                              Of the listed players:

                              Guards

                              Carolyn Appleby
                              Courtney Alexander
                              Ana Hollen
                              Madison Kerr
                              Lauren Wolosik

                              Post

                              Brittany Robinson
                              Kendall Hunter
                              Maura D'Anna
                              Lexie Griggs

There are some stellar players coming in this class. It will be interesting to see if any crack the rotation.
