  • Week 2 MBB

VULCANS MBB gets their first 88-73 over SALEM who seem to be somewhat better than SU teams of the past. Nice spread scoring led by PEGRAM 24, COLLINS 16, HOUSE 12, ALEXANDER 12, HALL 10. AJIKE 10 RB

Ship knocks off Bowie State, 81-68. Coming off their worst shooting performance in nine years, the Raiders hit nearly 60 percent of their shots for the game and never trail. Jake Biss and John Castello each score 18, and soph Carlos Carter scores 13 in the first half. The only sour note was that Ship hit only 56 percent from the FT line after making more than 90 percent of their FTs the first two games. Basketball can be weird.

OK, so Dec 7 @ SHIP will be a major hurdle for the VULCANS. They have 4 games in 3 weeks to get into rhythm and, hopefully, give them a good game. Players to watch-PEGRAM, Jr PG leading scorer and SANCOMB protege. HOUSE, Fr G/F surprisingly consistent ball handler and shooter. COLLINS, So G getting minutes but may not by Dec. ALEXANDER, RS So, AJIKE Fr and SMITH Fr all about the same player 6'5-6'7 long, smooth, and quick can score from inside or out, sharing 60 minutes right now but by league play one may step up. Time will tell.

So the much ridiculed non-team known as Wheeling University pulled off a W in its first game over Set on Hill. Nice job by the coach no one has heard of and rhe players that nobody cared about!!

Frostburg also got their first win as a DII program with their victory over Mansfield.

Somebody had to win that Wheeling vs SH game, right?

Seton Hill may only win 2-3 games this year. They are dreadful.

Yep...and that someone was WU. They most delinently won't stay undefeated, but rifht now, they are! Quite a change from the open speculation on weather they would even field a team this year.

I hope Seton Hill goes winless.

Carlow is not a D3 - Carlow is NAIA. However, Carlow is dreadful - was 1-29 last year.

                  Nice win for Ship.

Wheeling has a decent 3-4 guys, just no depth even though they have about 20 on the roster. Wheeling probably won't end the season with a winning record, but could pull a couple upsets here and there.

Wheeling's win over Seton Hill was not one of them. Seton Hill's new talent (9 frosh) is D3esque. There may not be a win on Seton Hill's schedule. Not sure who scheduled 2 home games of the first 9 (through Jan. 5) with 9 frosh on a 15 man roster, but hey at least the coaches wear matching suits every game.

Division II BB schedules are very strange at times. The Ship women's team has five straight away games coming up, followed by six straight home games.

Hosting lots of non-conference games costs money. Often times you (home team) are paying these teams to come in to your building. In particular, one-off games.

Interested to get our first (actual) look at Mercyhurst tonight. They played some jabroni the other day but Daemen can punch back.
