  • VULCANS MBB '23-'24....

Danny Sancomb has the flip side of Jess Strom. If I didn't miss a portal entry he has six returnees who played 192.0 MPG last year so unless injuries or outstanding newbies pop up, it's time to refine an already solid team. If they're as good as advertised, the early season games should all be winnable. Time will tell.

DANNY SANCOMB finally held onto all of his significant talent and heads into '23-'24 season with a team that is young and experienced.

Fr-3/RS Fr-1/So-4/RS So-1/Jr-5/Sr-1/RS Sr-1 If the top 8 can stay healthy and perhaps get some help from developing underclassmen this could be a breakthrough year. Time will tell.

Another oddity of DS recruited team, it may be in the PSAC but it's not a PA team. 4 each from MD and WV, 3 from PA, 2 from VA and NJ and 1 each from KY and IND.

Looks and plays a lot like PALEK 2.0 and will need to bulk up a bit to compete in the PSAC WEST.

Well, Seton Hill currently lists a 21-man roster with players from Baltimore, Texas, Greece, Ohio, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico. Gannon has two players from Turkey in addition to players from Arizona, Ohio, Georgia, and Maryland. So you're hardly alone in going outside the Keystone State. Chris Fite used say Ship was just "a bunch of guys from Pennsylvania," and that's usually been true, but we've gotten downright exotic with a couple of guys from Maryland and D.C. this year.

The privates frequently have far flung rosters, but DS seems to spend a great deal of time out of state especially in the Mid Atlantic.
VULCANS WBB was all over the world 15 years ago (Russia to Australia) but they're sticking close to home (PA,WV,MD,OH) recently.

Our women's field hockey team actually has players from Argentina, the Netherlands, and South Africa. It's amazing how far the recruiting net reaches for small schools these days

The VULCANS finished the weekend in Maryland on an up note with an 82-61 win over the BULLDOGS of BSU. Balanced scoring (McClurg-24, Palek-20, Collins-15) and better shooting (FG-55%, 3PT-47%) along with the edge in Rebounds, Blocks and Steals. Only downer was 50% FT shooting which will always bite you in the butt eventually.
On to Buckhannon WV on Monday vs WVWC.

Led by 19 pts from Bryson Lucas and KJ McClurg the VULCANS rolled past the bottom of the MEC, WVWU, 96-70. Jermaine Hall added 17 as every available player got on the floor at some point.
Next up cross state to Lincoln University on 11/22 before T'Giving break.

Feeling like a total MAROON that I just now realized that K.J.MCCLURG, who had his fourth 30 PT game vs GU and leads the VULCANS and the PSAC in scoring, is a D1 transfer from U of NEW HAMPSHIRE. It's a rare thing for a decent D1 to step down but the talent differential is obvious. Sad to say, everyone better get a good look, because I fear this will be his only season in The Valley especially if the team goes deep into the playoffs. The talent across the board is obvious and with Palek out others are doing a decent job picking up the slack. Time will tell.

Nice to hear that ZYAN COLLINS has signed with KK TAMIS of the Basketball League of Serbia. Can't comment on the quality of the team/league but Serbia is, by reputation, a pretty solid place to play ball. He may feel a bit claustrophobic since their home court seats 1100.....but he may get to play in front of a full house.
